Thread: Need math help...

I don't usually make requests (particularly in message boards) but I need to understand how you do these types of problems. It has to do with Algebra 2 and inequality word problems.

A company makes portable cassettes and CD players. The company makes at most 750 cassette players and 500 cd players in one month. It takes 2 hours to make cassette player and 5 hours to make a CD player. The company can spend no more than 3000 hours making these products. $4 profit is made on each cassette and $7 profit is made on each CD player. How many cd players should they make to maximize profit?

I'm not really looking for the answer but how in the hell you can get the answer, because I have other problems like these. I need to know things like what I need to do first to get equations, how to set the thing up by assigning the proper variables to be graphed, what to put as the x axis and what for the y, etc.

I need this by the end of today, and if needed I could send those who help two good hentai manga site links to your e-mail. lol

i'm not sure if i'm correct but:

The company needs to make the full 500 cd players and 250 cassettes. Coz if you start counting 500*5hrs= 2500hrs that leaves 500hrs left for the cassettes. That makes 250 cassettes.

500 cdplayers gets you a profit of $3500 and with the 250 cassettes you get a profit of $1000. That is $4500 profit a month.

I got this answer this way: The question is How many cd players should they make to maximize profit? So the company wants to make the most profit and therefor makes as many cdplayers as possible (500max). You devide the max hours (3000) by the time it is to make the cdplayers (5hrs). That makes 600 cdplayers.... but the only make 500 a month.... so that leaves you 100*5hrs (you devided it first so you have to multiply it again to get the hrs)=500hrs. 500hrs devided by the 2 hrs it takes to make the cassettes leaves you with 250 cassettes.

I dont know íf it was any help. I don't know how to make a graphic out of it but maybe somebody else can help you with that.

Good luck.

I don't think that you should be trying to make the most CD players as possible because one cd player brings the most profit. Remember, 1 CD Player takes 5 hours to make and brings in $7 profit. 1 Casette player takes 2 hours to make, and brings in $4 profit. But if to make 2 Casette players, it takes 4 hours, and you get a profit of $8 and you still have 1 hour left over i.e. making two catsette players gives you $1 more profit than making one cd player, and it takes less time, a whole hour less. so what you do is that you see how many cassete players you can make, because that will maximise profit.

750*2 = 1500 hours taken to make the max 750 cassette players a month.

3000-1500 = 1500 hours left to make cd players.

1500/5 = 300 CD Players a month.

Total Profit = 1500*4 + 300*7 = $8100

I hope i'm right .

ok DB_hunter is right if you want to make the most profit. But i thought the question was as many profit out of cd-players
Then you should make as many cd-players aspossible.

I looked at the problem again and the answer is 300. But what my teacher wants is for us to somehow take that information and write some inequality equations (a couple I guess) and make a graph out of it. I'm speculating that the graphs would bring up bounded regions and then pick the highest vertex for the maximum amount of cd players to make.

My main problem is knowing how to put it as equations and knowing what to use to label as X and Y for graphing.

So the question is still out there for anybody who wants to take a stab at it. But I really appreciate the help.

Btw I have the site links for u ppl if u want it (yes I was actually serious about it lol). Just PM me for it to remain confidential if you want it and I'll reply with the links (if ya helped.)

note: I don't think Kurenai wants it. I know it's a she. lol
But if u want it just ask.

Ah well if you had caught me a few days earlier I could have had a crack at it. Makes me glad that I'm not at school anymore .

But then again I need this time to write up two reports.... on transmission lines and current mirrors .

Lucky you except for the something-complicated-line-thingy-mirror report. Well for me I still have 2 more years of school. And these math problems are just some of my worries. A couple of essays for me as well.

ok Boner, here is your answer.

OK, let x be the number of casette players and y the number of CD players.
Then we know that:

x<=750
y<=500
2x+5y<=3000 (II)

Profit=4x+7y=4x+10y-3y=2(2x+5y)-3y<=2*3000-3y=6000-3y (from II)
We want the profit to equal its maximum so we make that inequality an equality by saying:
Profit=6000-3y (assuming we are using up all the 3000 hours)
so 2x+5y=3000
Finally to attain the maximum profit we look for the minimum value of y that satisfies our equations.
Since x<=750 then 2x<=1500 and because 2x+5y=3000 we get
5y=3000-2y>=3000-1500=1500 so y>=1500/5=300.
Therefore the minimum value of y we can pick is 300, and with it our maximum profit becomes 6000-3*300=5100.

Hope that helps

Yes enjoy your highschool years. In college you'll have to type essays every week.

It is very sweet of you..... but it was a joke from my side. I'm not intressted in hetai. And btw i had the wrong answer and DB_hunter the right one.....

And DB_hunter..... only if we keep it quiet when you come over Shikai won't come. Or maybe he's going to sleep in front of my house
