I always thought it was Asuma in that photo, because of the item in his mouth similar to the cigarettes he has today, and it looks like him too.

I can guarantee that it ain't Asuma. If you consider Naruto as a common anime-series then you'll probably see that it's pretty obviously that the guy we're talking about is Obito...
I don't see naruto as special, the story is just so regular" so it's naturally that way..

No ..thats not Asuma.. many sites talked about the boy in that pic.. who is DEFINITELY Obito-san ... Kakashi's dead friend...
we do not know if hes that boy on the left, it's not stated in the manga. The picture wasn't even shown in the manga, it was sketched out by kishimoto and used it as a page divider in a manga (japanese). I've seen it before when i was reading it. It hasn't been shown in the story.
Edit: Remember we saw a picture of Naruto with frog, sasuke with snake, sakura with snail. But it's not necessary true, because why would kishimoto forshadow us like that... he might just be drawing it for the fun of it.

yeah .. we wont know if obito is truly from Uchiha clan coz he was sitll young in that pic to have the sharingan in his eyes..so we still dont know if he was the one who gave the eye to kakashi.." I donno why, but I still believe that this boy whos in the pic is obito-san"

Exactly, people pay way too much attention to that picture, and it's espically stupid since we also see Sakura wielding a huge Chinize sword at the same page, and I've never seen anyone speculating about her learning Kenjutsu...
about Obito: it is probably right that he had the Sharingan the Kakashi now has (I prefer to think that Kakashi stole it from Obito's dead body), but seeing how we have nothing to support that claim, we can't just run around and scream it like it's some fact...
