Who uses the News groups

I dont know but i might be a minority. I use the news groups to download almost all of my PS2 games and DVD movies/Anime. Anyone else here besides me that do this or am I alone

I used to use them all the time, than my ISP got bought-out by a bigger company, and the new company didn't offer them. It was a pain.

you may not want to pay extra but you can get a good payserver for like $15 USD a month. Thats what i do b/c my providers binaries are almost all incomplete

I just use suprnova.org or animesuki.

KakashiSensei, is your PS2 modded or do you use the swap method?

It is modded. The problem with that was my old one's Laser died on me so i have a useless black box on the floor and stole my Brothers to play. The Swap method is too much work for me.

I live in Toronto and use Bell Sympatico, you need to get the proggy Grabit, Winrar, quickpar, FSRaid Par proggy. Then get your ISP (which one do you have) NNTP server name then download the headers of all the groups you want to download from with Grabit.

My ISP is rogers.Just got grabit from shemes.So what's next,I have winrar.And do I really need the other two rar programs?

And what is the full server exactly? Also,what determines the password and username? That part has me confused.

there is no username and password -- you can only access the rogers new server if you on the rogers network.

Full server name - DNS name is nntp.ym.phub.net.cable.rogers.com
This is only works for you if your on the rogers network "for anyone else reading this post"
Also Grabit call if a- Hostname: nntp <that should be all you need to access there news groups

rogers has been crap for the past week - hopefully they will fix this problems soon and we will have complete posts in the groups

Next for you is question - are you behind a router?

if you arent the your server for grabit will be nntp
if you are behind a server then the server is nntp.ym......rogers.com (the full server address)

Then when the server is added - right click and update your groups
After the groups are updated you will be able to subscribe to the groups.

.... the list goes on and on
rogers has some 31220 groups -- the binaries groups are the ones with files in them.

Now right click on the group and update it - this will download a list of all the files posted in that group - there called headers.

Highlight the headers you want to download and click the Grab Button - this will download the file to your computer

Use winrar to unrar files - most all file are posted to newsgroups in the rar format

Ok you dont need Par or Par2 files. But in some cases you wont get a complete post unless you have them, the recover incomplete or missing rar files from your download so that you may extract the movie or anime you have downloaded from your new provider. B/C sometimes the files upload either get curropt of not all of the files are uploaded Par and Par2 files will either create or repair those missing files. Think of winrar as program that compresses and zips over many diskettes like in the old IBM 486 when you zip doom to 5 diskettes. Hope that help you.
