he's probably as good a leader as his dad, but not as strong all around. Being a genious is one thing, having a lot of experience is another. plus the fact that his dad has a lot of other shadow moves, e.g. shadow neck bind, means he's probably stronger than his son

Shikamaru's dad seems like he would have more stealth/hand to hand moves.

His "cloak" suggests he either has some concealed weapon or something of the like to remain hidden. In the shadows so to speak.

i think shika's dad may be a super genius, but no one took notice of him, just like shika (except for Asuma... and everyone else after seeing him fight in the chunnin exam).
