I think the birth of Jesus is actually sometime in Jan.... that&#39;s when the Orthodox xmas is... I think. The reason why christmas is more famously celebrated in December as far as I know is because when the original Christian Missionaries came to Europe (and/or Britain) they found Pagan tree worshippers. During December the Pagans would celebrate a festival of their own. The missionaries, in their attempt to make Christianity more palatable to the local Pagan populace, decided to actually do a sort of compramise and they reached an agreement of sorts (if you can call it that) that the newly &#39;converted&#39; christians would celebrate the birth of Jesus in December, and I&#39;m not sure on this one but I think 25th was the date of their festival.

    I am not aware if this was the only compramise done at the time or not.

I hope i&#39;m not too late, because if i am, then this thread is pointless. I do know that Americans and also a few other do celebrate christmas the 25th, but as i&#39;m from sweden, it&#39;s not the same. we celebrate christmas the 24th, and so i wanna get it going already so that no one is left out

    ... miiru? is.. that you? </td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'>
    Who is Miiru?

    Anyway. To answer a person from Sweden in swedish (i&#39;ll translate so you all can understand it)...

    I don&#39;t know exactly how many Swedes there are on this forum. I know that i&#39;ve gotten about 3 people to join, but they are almost never here. Then there is the person with the hammerfall sig who is from Sweden and also one person who was a mod here before (Terracosmo). Then there are a few more i&#39;ve talked with here that are Swedes. Don&#39;t know an exact number, but i&#39;d say there are about 10 to 20 at least.

    Edit: Kanske borde vi svenskar på forumet skapa en alliance </td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'>
    hmm... thats strange.. and rare

    My friend miiru is from sweden,write english as you do, got EXACTLY the same avatar on many forums. Are you sure it isnt you?

    .. tjena jo det skulle vi nog kunna göra
    Nåja god jul&#33;

    Merry christmas&#33;

    You&#39;ve got it close.

    It originated with Saturnalia, the Latin Festival to the God of Saturn (who, if you look into that kind of stuff, also rules over gardening). Then, they would decorate all their trees and decorate with foilage, and all that stuff.. they would light candles, and here&#39;s the kicker.

    Roles would be reversed. Slaves would become masters for the day and vice versa. I think the only one exempt might&#39;ve been the emperor/Ceaser/whatever.

    And then yeah, Christians came and did the compromise thingie.

    However, if you figure that Jesus was 33 1/2 years old when he died, and he died in March/April.. doesn&#39;t that kinda make it so that he was born in Sept. or October? Remember, it was warm enough to have Sheep out on the pastures, so it couldn&#39;t have been too cold then...

    By the way, I know this is a nice heart-warming thread, but I&#39;m gonna move it to the General Discussion folder, leaving a link to it in here.

    (Sigh).... this code system is too limited. You should allow HTML in these forums =P
    Anyway:

    MERRY CHRISTMAS&#33;&#33; ^^&#39;

    <span style='colorurple'>Actually, the code&#39;s really easy.. You just highlight the area you wanna color, and then click on the color drop-down and it colors it for you&#33; And you have to close each tag before you start a new color, otherwise it won&#39;t work.</span>

    Actually that&#39;s Exactly the limitation i meant. It means you can&#39;t specify your colour saturation, and are limited to certain colours only. The current system sucks, i could make colours fade from one to the other and even mix colours if we had the HTML system going, or a more flexible code.

    Sweden rule U.S.A, we could have owned U.S if we just put some more money in researching and development of new weapons and combat-planes. And now the god damn mad cow desease have been located in U.S what next?

    It feels so good to speak out what i had on my mind, i know it&#39;s off topic but this is General discussion so...

    Merry Christmas BTW

    ... So Sweden is superior because you don&#39;t have mad cow disease... Haha. We&#39;ll i guess you&#39;ve got better health care. Merry Christmas.

    Meh, fair enough comment. But then again, England could of Owned the US if we didn&#39;t let them have so much freedom and get to the point for the declaration of Independance.

    Hell, even the Dutch could of owned the US if they didn&#39;t face such stiff competition. So the comment about the fact sweden could of owned, dosn&#39;t really mean that much. Anyone could of owned, but no-one but the US owns the US. Thus any future comments on that particular thing, is pointless.

    One thing making Sweden better than every country in the world is that we have the best democrasy in the world. Maybe also equality is one thing i could mention which Sweden is also best in the world at keeping. But other than that, i couldn&#39;t care less for Sweden.

    Yay Christmas&#33; Wonder if I get a gamecube this year. You gotta love how they commercialize the hell out of holidays.

    side note: the ppl living next to my place have been playing 8 non-stop hours of CHristmas songs. It&#39;s getting to the point of annoyance. As I finish this sentence, I&#39;ll be off to find a shotgun in an attempt to put a bullet into my frontal lobe.

    I dont celebrate Christmas, or anything for that matter but, Berserk should be out so I will still have a much better time than christmas can ever provide. Happy Xmas to you all though.
