Synopsis
Loid Forger, an elite spy, is warned by his handler that he may potentially be reassigned from his ongoing mission, Operation Strix. To maintain his position, he must make significant progress toward the operation's objectives, which involves having his adoptive daughter Anya earn sufficient Stella Stars to become an Imperial Scholar at Eden Academy.

After learning of a cooking contest that awards the winning student with a Stella Star, Loid researches the judge's preferred dessert to help increase Anya's odds. However, perfectly recreating the judge's favorite meremere requires more than just following a recipe. Thus, the Forgers embark on a vacation to the Frigis region to try an authentic meremere. Not all goes smoothly on the trip, as the Forger family ends up entwined in a sinister plot to reignite war between the countries of Ostania and Westalis.

it's a movie. I haven't been keeping up with the anime, so I created a new thread.


everybody shooting up inside closed spaces. I think I got some 90's ninja scroll flashbacks (which I don't remember watching), it didn't feel hectic enough, it should have been much more of a clusterfuck with all the moving parts they established.

The movie was everything good about Spy X Family in a nutshell. It's not the most amazing movie, like how Spy X Family isn't the best anime ever. That said, the comedy was on point. Poo holding was the peak of it. Everyone split off and did their niche thing and came back together etc.

I do find that Yor doubting her self-worth in the family unit is something that she should eventually get over. It's going to get old, if it hasn't gotten old already.

That's actually one of the things I dislike about Spy Family currently (anime only): that there's no progress.

Anya's always sucking and not any closer to being an Imperial Scholar.
Loid isn't any closer to his mission really.
Yor finally got a little character development in S2, but I'm not sure where this movie sits timeline-wise. She didn't recognise Nightfall during the kiss and it's hard to say if she should have.

Overall the formula is getting a little old:
-Anya has to do something to get a Stellar.
-Loid helps and they all go on a mission.
-Yor doubts herself.
-Yor muscles through somehow.
-Anya saves them with telekinesis but still goes into this whole "Oh, but I can't tell them" thing (either work towards being able to tell her parents in the story, or she'd just be used to not telling her parents and the thought of telling them shouldn't ever come to her mind these days)
-Bond serves as a vehicle for Anya, because she needs thoughts to action off, but they can't have her being around a convenient villain at the beginning of the struggle every time.
