Code Geass: Rozé of the Recapture (TV)

    Plot Summary:
Seven years ago, the reign of the Britannian Empire came to an end. Yet, that was not the end of war and oppression as many had hoped. Three years later, the disenfranchised remnants of the old empire made one last attempt to seize power, taking over the Japanese island of Hokkaido and isolating it behind an energy barrier. To this day, even the mighty Black Knights have been unable to take it down, leaving the Japanese people trapped within at the mercy of their “Neo-Britannian” overlords. In this dire situation, mercenary brothers Ash and Rozé begin working with the rebel groups within Hokkaido. With Ashe's skill as a pilot and Rozé's tactical genius, there is hope for victory for the first time in years. But little do they suspect that there is far more to Rozé than meets the eye—for not only is his true identity shrouded in mystery, but he also has the power to control men's minds. -ANN

    Up to Ep 3.

It's alright. Nothing amazing. Not to the level of Human chesspiece that Lelouch plays. It's duo with one doing espionage and one doing all the shooting. I'm mostly watching this to see where the original characters fit in. I do more or less look forward to it.

So why watch this? Is there any draw for fans of the original anime or is it just a lesser retread?

See geass powers and Clamp designs.
    Hope for old character cameos.

This episode's fights were really nice to watch. The tension was there. It's been a while since I've seen a mecha fight from Sunrise, though I've skipped a few of their new shows lately. And a Sunrise mecha fight isn't complete without dropping a damn fortress on someone.

Narah's pretty, and it looks like she'll have a chance of joining our side as well. She reminds me of the old Cornelius.

    C.C.!

Too bad Lelouch and her pretty much showed up just to say "We're alive, but we won't be doing much so don't count on seeing us around".

Nina's crying didn't do much for me. I still dislike her, and suddenly crying like that just felt artificial, even if it's bad writing as opposed to bad acting.

    Claudia's still hot.

If I watched Code Geass S1 and S2, is this the next anime in the franchise or do I need to watch something else before?

You need to watch Code Geass: Lelouch of the Re;surrection.

    Yeah, this.

I tried watching the Akito show twice but stopped at around episode 2 or 3 both times I think. Just didn't get the urge to finish it.

Does that take place directly after S2's end where Lelouch faked his death? Or at least so we're left to believe, iirc.

It is a direct sequel, but there is a short time skip.

I'm quite enjoying this series. There's no Lelouch, but there's still the plot twists (not as extreme as days of old but still), action, Geass, ruthless Britannians and eye candy.

It's pleasing to know that Noland's 1st in command is actually very competent at fighting and isn't just the "Old smart guy". Old being relative in the military sense.

    The fights are still pretty.
Tactically it's not easy to follow - people just rock up anywhere and at anytime.
The interpersonal development and twists are interestingly enough.
    The bondage is delicious.

-I wonder how'd CC survive if she was turned into red mist. I don't want it to happen, but I am curious.

-Needles around your head in a mech is a terrible idea from a safety perspective.

-Roze had a good window when Norland took his helmet off. Lelouch would not have missed that window.

If there are good fights, I guess I could stand to give this one a try. CG hasn't aged as well as I remembered, but if this more than a hollow shell of the og, I can see it being pretty fun.

The first few episodes did remind me a little of old Code Geass with the mystique of the Geass power and deception amongst friends and enemies alike.

Currently I'd say it's more just about looking pretty (apparently this was supposed to be a movie) and going through the motions of wrapping up the typically unengaging Sunrise ending with some world-ending mechanic from the villain.

lol, the final fight was bullet hell. That's probably my least favourite type of video game.

Sakuya Geass-ing herself in the mirror meant that her power actually relies on line-of-sight and not just audio, if we're to take everything seen as Gospel.

Anyway, the show is pretty. The first 3 or so episode had me excited. The rest fell off.

    Anyway, have this. (NSFW)

That was wholesome. Thanks. By the end I wasn't even expecting any action anymore.

As for the franchise itself, did any side content ever flesh out the Jupiter stuff fully? They tried to get into some Elevator to Heaven shit that just never actually answered why Geass exists besides imagery suggesting it came from Jupiter people or something.
