    Bastard

Here is the magnet link for the whole series.

I'm halfway, and I am sort of skimming through it. The "shyness" jokes and the clearly mentally challenged Lucien feel so dated, and the rest of it is barely anything interesting. If it weren't for the retro-art style and wakiness I would've dropped this already.

So to make it short: This is not a classic on par with BERSERK, right? Often seen that comparison.

"She's the only non-loli girl in the show, your honor!" will be my defense in court

Not at all. What an absurd comparison.

    just started watching it. (ep4)

feels weird. dirty. silly in some ways.

is the kid supposed to be 15?

edit-e9: remarkably stupid and juvenile, I think that even 15 y.o. would think so. is this a bad story or a bad adaptation?
edit-e12: I think even the numbered ninja battle-question-shouters have more lines than the girl (Yoko). are they padding?
edit-e13: this is entirely stupid, contrived and devoid of human sense. are they just remaking the old anime or are they copying panels? the whole things reeks of half-cooked first draft. why say that only powerful magicians can control multiple spirits if we never see a week magician summoning just one? why establish her as a half-elf/dark-elf if the story didn't involve elves so far? why bother introducing so many story elements if they aren't going to be pay off? the tone is all over the place.
edit-e15: the daughter-lover dynamic is weird, why? not sure what the point of yoko is, has a much lines as "fourth ninja". some random guy opened his window in the middle of the battle scene to commentate on something that he didn't see. why is the show like this?
edit-e21: giving up on pretending that Yoko has a point in being an character, or the high priest. maybe the dragon will justify his existence later? can't imagine it happening. was this show done on a budget? it's really obvious when they get the 3d model to move around a lot, but the rest of the characters are nearly still images/ reaction shots.

sig made by Itachi-y2k5, thanks, dude!
Currently Watching: probably a show directed at 9 years old girls, lets be honest.

You know the important distinction between Batman and me? Batman is fictional. In real life, there isn't always an alternative.

finished it. waste of my time watching it, and waste of time feeling that i've missed out on something because I haven't watched Bastard! 15 years ago.

the last two episodes were better, but it still seems like this would have been better with six episodes, half the characters, and gutting the whole thing down to something else.

side note: I hate the ending sequence. it sterile and pretending. all the women there behave like they are dolls, controlled, which removes their agency and the different kind of "love" they each have towards Dark Sheneaider, and makes them seems less of a character and more of a prop. add that to them posing like lingerie models and it gets off putting.

it reminds me the most of Samurai Deeper Kyo (which I didn't like), it has a similar structure, someone bad was trapped inside something weak and is bound by it, and then plot, but mainly fights which never end and don't go anywhere. it also allows them to behave as if there is a grand story while never conveying that to the viewer (RE: the war 15 years ago, what was that about?), and every fight is a twist "I have a more hidden secret power!" or "I have a more secret motive!" that it breaks characterization.

and this show had a shocking amount of battle commentators, like I'm watching prince of tennis again, I was hoping that anime being produced by netflix had better production values.

season 2: one bad thing, and then two better things so it won't be non stop negative.

ep2 - I saw the lineup of the baddies and there are too many of them! even if they send out multiple of time for each episode, the show will still drag itself and we won't get to the plot finish line.

good things: there are some angles in which Yoko looks like Lina Inverse, which is a vast improvement. also, the ED animation sequence is much more anime, like a prince of tennis lineup, it's not interesting and it doesn't fit the show, but at least it lets some personality of the characters pass through.

ep6 - (bad) great, more attempted rape played as comedy. (good) it's better than the first season, also looks like characters actually have human motivations.
ep9 - (bad) sure, teleport, why not. (good), when it's comedy, it's ok. and we finally got 10 minutes of actual lore and background on the world, finally.
ep12 - (bad) don't show us him hikaru genjing the little girl, it's bad enough that we know the history, but they can at least hide the creepy parts. (good) some more background lore, and I really like how steel threads guy and worms dude are friends and work together, winning the "best baddies" award by being the only ones who step up to bat.

ep15-finale. (bad) "please forgive your him for killing me, he did it because he wanted to", and now it's time to have the bad guys do 180. (good) not sure?

I can't tell if it's bad writing or a too much planned-out story that's supposed to not make sense until all the facts are laid out. the fantasy/sci-fi elements aren't mixing well for me. is the demon supposed a computer virus (maybe AI?), it has some computer effects, it was created as such, and is named like a virus. but then there are also eons of fantasy myth, which bring a different narrative core, and the whole thing is never addressed.
