    Episode 3

    - - - - - --

This was mostly fluff, which I didn't mind. Unfortunately the animation director still has never experienced a sauna. It's sad the animation studios pay so awfully low wages to all the staff that they can't even afford to visit a sauna before making a sauna scene, to know how it works.

What I did mind is that this ended up being another episode that makes Tisse look as incompetent as possible. I can't understand why the series does it. She supposedly was a part of the hero party meant to fight the demon lord himself, yet she's nothing but an inexperienced weakling.

It's interesting how the new hero is exactly how one should be in that world, considering its natural laws, but that also makes him a total psycho. That being said, maybe only Tisse should stay away from him? Assassin sounds like a "wrongdoer's" blessing. The rest around Red don't really have dubious blessings, as far as I can remember. Though obviously Ruti might be the worst offender in the new hero's eyes since Ruti is rejecting the hero's blessing. I doubt he would be her opponent, though.

This is starting to become brain dead. While the new hero is interesting as a totally twisted, and thus perfect, hero from the point of view of the god of that world, the other characters aren't making too much sense anymore. Anyone can see the hero is a psycho, yet they keep expecting the best from him and worship the ground he walked on. The fairy is even worse; Van at least believes he's doing the right thing (despite being more like a villain than a hero), but the fairy is utterly evil, plain and simple. Why didn't anyone kill it during this commotion? You know, a literally little bit of collateral damage in the chaos. The fairy is probably working directly for the demon king. Yet the story got so brain dead that nobody does anything about it. This is precisely the kind of idiotic, illogical writing I hate.

I stopped watching a few episodes ago, but sorry to hear the writing is as slipshod as I'd feared it would be, going by the first season. Is it shield hero bad, or even worse? Is the narrative completely contrived at this point?

Shield hero is meandering bad and lost its edge, or at least that's how I'd describe it, this is just forcefully making people act in strange ways. Though I'm sure someone would disagree with me. Maybe the fundamental problem in this story is that it was supposed to be about the slow like for Red+Lit, and then Ruti conquering her blessing - to also gain her own slow life. In this second season that was clearly supposed to continue, but with the new hero and the temple backing him, it can't anymore be about just the slow life in a small town. So, the slow life basic setting is clashing with the bigger story, which was only supposed to be background information.

This kind of conflict can work perfectly in a story precisely written for it, like for example the first Rambo movie, where a killing machine is forced to seek slow life, but the real slow life folks of the small town can't accommodate such an unknown variable. But this series obviously is no Rambo movie.

I'll still probably keep watching this (because I like the characters), but if you are several eps behind, I can't honestly say it would necessarily be worth it to catch up.

Just watched that episode, and it is quite infuriating. The psycho hero is clearly irredeemable. They should just kill him and get another hero. The fairy needs to get the Berserk treatment.

I haven't watched the last couple of episodes. It's too painful, considering how much I liked the show before.

Faux-Hero lost the ability to hear his blessing.
He decides to kill Ruti because that was the last thing he heard the blessing say.
He goes on to almost murder the dood that mask girl fell for. Mask girl fights him.
Instead of just murdering this asshole, MC decides to talk to him again, after everything he has done.
MC decides the best way to do this is to fight Faux-Hero 1v1.

Thanks, that sounds kinda really dumb. Painful when a show like that continues to take itself seriously. Reminds me of my reaction to Tokyo Revengers.

    The ending wasn't too bad.

Red wiped the floor with the faux-hero, taught him some lessons, and converted him to a decent human. Fairy bitch gave Red the ring gemstone needed for the proposal. Everything works out in the end.
