To Your Eternity: Fumetsu no Anata e

    toyureternity.jpg

It, a mysterious immortal being, is sent to the Earth with no emotions nor identity. However, It is able to take the shape of those around that have a strong impetus.

At first, It is a sphere. Then, It imitates the form of a rock. As the temperature drops and snow falls atop the moss, It inherits the moss. When an injured, lone wolf comes limping by and lays down to die, It takes on the form of the animal. Finally, It gains consciousness and begins to traverse the empty tundra until It meets a boy.

The boy lives alone in a ghost town, which the adults abandoned long ago in search of the paradise said to exist far beyond the endless sea of white tundra. However, their efforts were for naught, and now the boy is in a critical state.

Acquiring the form of the boy, It sets off on a never-ending journey, in search of new experiences, places, and people.
    episode 2:

I was unsure after episode 1, but the second episode continues to be great, so here's a thread. This is totally something to cry for, permant tragedy looming over everyone. I feel so bad for Marchi. It's so easy to imagine what must be going through her head .... on one hand, she doesn't want to die. On the other, she doesn't want her little sister and best friend to die, either. Ugh. These people are cowards. "Oniguma" is, I assume from the name, the bear we saw at the beginning of the episode. They should toughen up and hunt it down, the end. Not an easy task, but infinitely better than sending children to death.

The main character is one big oddity. Even when he eventually will learn to speak (I'm guessing here), will he talk from his own perspective or will his thinking also be mimicking the things he made contact with? So far he has learn to heal wounds, stay warm and eat.

    Anyway, interesting story for sure.

    Episode 3:

And with this episode, this anime is a masterpiece. Easily anime of the season for me so far, despite quite some competition. Considering nobody has posted in this thread yet, I urge all of you to give this anime a chance and watch at least the first 2 episodes.

This is turning into a bonafide non-episodic adventure story like I haven't seen one since ... I don't know. I get Kemono no Souja Erin-vibes, except this one has much better animation and a more mysterious story so far. If this story leads somewhere meaningful and can keep up its quality through to the end .... damn. <3

I'm sure this is wonderful, in fact I have no doubt, but I'm not really interested in the near term at being wistfully depressed by the bittersweet agony.

Also, I just re-read all of A Silent Voice like two weeks ago, so I'm topped up on Ōima Yoshitoki works for the immediate moment.

    Maybe later though.

Oh ffs, I just thought the thread got deleted for bs reasons, search didnt show anything when I entered "fumatsu", either. Can we please not use those shitty English titles? We're all weebs enough to use the, much better, original titles :/

    Episode 4:

Still going strong, although a little slower pacing this week than the previous episodes. From the preview it looks like it'll actually succeed, but the prison break out plan seemed awfully simple. Didn't have confidence in that succeeding lol.

Oniguma was still alive?! That was weird. He looked very dead ever since his defeat by Fushi. Oh well. I guess he really was some kind of god. would at least contextualize his ridiculous size.

This continues to be my favorite anime of the season, if animation had a higher budget, it'd be a Ghibli-movie.

    Episode 5:

    FFS

I cried for like 5 minutes ... when she died. And then when Fuji mimicked her face when stopping Parona from committing suicide. Fuck ...

Definitely didn't expect that, because we'd seen Marchi's adult form in terms of visions/opening before. If anything, I expected Marchi to be saved and Parona go on adventure with Fu-chan.

This anime has been so good and it still is. What a surprise out of nowhere. And fuck, I was SO happy when that bitch got hit by Fu-chan's Oniguma-form, but then she was still alive, ugh. But from the look on her face, she's quite a broken existence at that point. Good.

The preview for next week looked great, too. Really can't tell where this series is going, and whether it's even possible to end it in a satisfying way. But this ... man, this anime is like Mushishi, except with an ongoing plot and less boring.

PS: It needs to be said: Parona has an amazingly erotic body shape. Wow. It's all the more conspicuous here because this isn't your run-off-the-mill ecchi moe anime, lol. But her body is just perfect. Slightly bigger boobs maybe, but nah, proportions are what matters. That slender back ... hngg.

Just out of curiosity: Am I really the only one watching this? Ryll has explained why he's not watching it currently, but the rest of you?

It's weird, because it feels as if I were the only one watching the final season of Attack on Titan. That's how essential this anime is imo. Sorry if anyone feels attacked, but I had to ask. :>

I watch anime with my wife, and she can't handle sad stories, so we haven't continued this after the first episode.

It's not that unusual. Kraco and I were the only people posting about ARIA basically forever, and that was over a decade ago when the forums were more active. Shinta eventually watched it as well.

Hm, I just feel like this one's really universally appealing. Good artstyle, good adventure story, the full package. Oh well. Probably just me being sad that this anime doesn't get much reaction here ;>

    Well, good call then xD

You should watch it without her then at some point though, really great anime.

I'm stalling at each episode, sadness/melancholy and violence are not things I need in my life.

All the things I really like to do are either illegal, immoral, or fattening. And then: Golf.

This anime is indeed a masterpiece. It has been awhile since an anime has been so efficient at evoking such a wide range of emotions. I'm scared to watch every episode due to the brutality of the realness inside a fantasy setting. I was balling my eyes out in ep5, shit aint fair I say!

Low key mad at the recommendations but yall weren't wrong.

    episode 6:

Phew, not a sad episode for once - but an unexpectedly action-heavy one! That fight against the "entity" was nicely animated, I especially loved how Fushi ran around as Marchi.

Also, I didn't expect Fushi's origin/existence to become part of the ongoing plot that early. I assumed he'd experience all sorts of adventures and in the last episode we find out where it all lead to. but nah, there is his creator This should make the story much more involved than I expected, very nice surprise.

    episode 7:

The range (emotion, settings, characters) of this anime is amazing. After a sad beginning, an action-heavy middle, now we get this more cheerful episode (with a tragic flashback, admittedly).

Also, how smoothly every episode flows into the next one really makes this a great adventure journey. There aren't any hardcuts, every episode ends in a way that sets up the next one. Nowadays the vast majority of anime are strictly episodic, with each episode being about one specific plot point. Not so Fumatsu, where the plot is one overarching element and each episode simply shows us as much as 20 minutes can.

I wonder how the boy's face really looks like. Honestly, he probably should have been dead after that tree trunk falling on his head. The other thing I'm wondering about is whether Fushi will eventually learn the ability to heal others. He can insta-heal himself, but healing others would be really useful, especially if the boy''s face is truly hideous. It might make for a tragic realization though, finding out that he could have saved Marchi. Hm.

    Episode 8:

I really hope we get to see Gugu's face, because it's hard to imagine how it could scare people so much. Then again: The old guy adding an alcohol-producing organ into him ... wtf.

For now, I just want to see a path to happiness for Gugu. It's hard to watch someone who's working so hard and remains positive even after so much misery receiver unfair treatment again and again. However, this isn't unrealistic. It mirrors our real society where outward appearance counts more than the character of a person.

Only thing I was disappointed: That Fushi only went after Gugu because of his desire to learn. I had hoped he'd learn what a friend is and say "because Gugu is my friend". But ... maybe that's still happening in the future. :>

omg, showing almost the entire battle thats about to happen in next episode, thats even worse than a cliffhanger xD

I still hope we get to see what Gugu looks like. It's easy for Rean to claim she doesnt care about his appearance, but sad fact is: some people *do* look so hideous that it's hard to stomach, especially when that person desires a romantic relationship.

    episode 10:

Omg, the tears just kept coming - tears of joy >_<

When Fushi returned and thanked Gugu for saving him ... had my eyes bawling, that so so feelgood. Gugu in his entirety is such an awesome character. In any other anime, he'd be the protagonist.

The time skip is nice, too, seeing Gugu all grown up and buff, haha. Meanwhile Rean just ... got a bit taller, rofl.

"Then see it through to the end" the godly guy told Fushi ... yeah, if Gugu dies, I'm gonna be devastated :/ Pls don't do this, anime.

Man, I can't get over how cool it was that Gugu actively joined the fight against that otherworldly monster. Gave me BERSERK-vibes, like, normal humans aren't supposed to stand a chance against such monsters, heh. Cool little guy. Cool big guy, sorry, Gugu.

OMFG! Don't you dare die, Gugu!

And here I thought the episode would end with a peaceful, uplifting revelation ... than the floor literally cracks. lol

I'm kinda mad about Rean. Yeah, Gugu could be more proactive, but there clearly is a class system in action and Gugu knows that. It's up to Rean to decline that random marriage candidate and tell her parents that she loves Gugu.

What's absolutely necessary, however, is that Rean sees Gugu's face before they marry. If I were Gugu, I wouldn't be able to live in constant fear of losing my wife in the event she ever saw me without mask. So accepting his appearance is key. I wonder if the anime will undo at least some of Gugu's ugliness. Maybe he grew out of the misshaped face when he got older and it looks kinda okay now? Or Fushi can heal him, after all. Actually, maybe Gugu is severely injured from the fall and when Fushi learns to heal Gugu when he tries to save his life, he accidentially also heals Gugu's face. Maa ....

Gotta be honest though: At first I thought the big brother returned only to be revealed being the marriage candidate of Rean's. Now that would have been a mindfuck.

    Episode 12:

    Fuck

I didn't understand the Rean-scene with Fushi at the end, though. Why didn't Fushi tell her? This only fucks her up double: First time, crying for Fushi, second time, crying for Gugu. But then in the last scene when she's lying in the flower bed, she spoke as if she knew Gugu wasn't coming back. A bit weird, but maybe I missed a detail?

Anyway ... fuck. Can't ever give us a little happy end, eh :/ I know, I know, it's probably all a metaphor for how life/living means meeting new people and losing them eventually. But ... I don't like this whether it's irl or in fiction >_< Ffs, Gugu ... it was so awesome to see a mere human fighting alongside Fushi against such a monster.

wow, i fucking hate that girl. acting like she did nothing wrong. pls transform into the bear and eat her whole, Fushi ;>

Well, at least looks like we're in for some action-heavy episodes.

Gotta admit, though: Fushi finally realizing that he's losing precious memories when the Nokker take from him made me tear up again. Get that Marchi back, Fushi!

    Episode 14:

    Nice, more Parona <3<3<3

I still hate the teenagers that flock to Fushi. They surely have some tragic, horrible past, but that doesn't excuse trapping him and the old lady on a slave ship towards a slave island. Especially their attitude irks me wrong, constantly smirking and laughing. At least Fushi himself criticized that, too.

I'm not sure I like that abilities are now locked to memories. He should be able to do Parona's moves even with his inuit boy-body. At least somewhat. But I won't complain if it means more Parona <3

Looking forward to find out who that mysterious, weird girl is. Another immortal? A higher tier-Nokker? Hm ...
