Osananajimi ga Zettai ni Makenai LoveCome

"* Based on a romantic comedy light novel series written by Nimaru Shuichi and illustrated by Shigure Ui.
My childhood friend Shida Kuroha seems to have feelings for me. She lives next door, and is small and cute. With an outgoing character, she's the caring Onee-san type, this being one of her greatest strengths.
...But, I already have my first love, the beautiful idol of our school, and the award-winning author high school girl, Kachi Shirokusa! Thinking about it rationally, I should have no chances with her, but, while walking home from school, she only talks to me, with a smile even! I might actually have a chance, don't you think?!
Or so I thought, but then I heard that Shirokusa already has a boyfriend, and my life took a turn for the worse. I want to die. Why is it not me?! Even though she was my first love... As I was drowning in despair and depression, Kuroha whispered.
—If it's that tough for you, then how about we get revenge? The best revenge ever, that is~

Firstly, this premise: "I'm gonna get revenge on you for not reciprocating my feelings" is actually a dumber motivation than Masamune kun's Revenge from a couple years ago (the closest approximation I can think of to this), yet I find myself enjoying this much more, one episode in. To be fair, the girl came up with it actually, as I suspect this is her way of approaching MC. The cards are on the table and the players more or less understand the rules, so variety and humor of hijinks that follow will ultimately determine the appeal. I do also enjoy how ambiguous the two heroines are as to who is more fated to be with our boy... unless the title is a spoiler. Give it a watch.

At first, I rolled my eyes at the childhood friend saying 'no', but after thinking about it for a bit, its no more contrived a reason to prolong the courtship than any other. The naive concept of getting revenge on people who do not reciprocate your feelings is silly and trite enough that I am willing to buy some dumb high schoolers dancing their awkward romance though it.
I'm beginning to think Doga Kobo's animation budget is directly proportional to the amount of cute girls in the main cast. Parts of this were pretty rough compared to past efforts.
