    Manga: Dragon Ball Super

I've been using the anime thread for Dragon Ball Super to discuss the differences between the anime and the manga of which there are quite a few. But I decided to make a thread here to start doing that.

I'll repost a few of my posts from the anime thread on the subject:

They also mention that Goku and Vegeta's bodies have both already reached the limits of what Zenkai powerups can do for them. They don't get stronger when they almost die anymore.

Also, Goku doesn't stupidly forget the Senzu beans in the manga. Zamasu just destroys them after Goku uses one.

There's also an entirely new subplot about how Trunks survives that day fighting Black and Zamasu alone while Goku is learning the Mafuba.

Also, Vegeta actually uses his base SSJ God form against Black. A form the anime has never even shown us.

They've also introduced a new twist where Zamasu's fusion will only last an hour, because the earring fusion is only permanent for Supreme Kais, and Zamasu never officially became a Supreme Kai. So because he's just completely immortal, they're basically just trying to draw out the fight until he unfuses.

Supreme Kai also makes a comment about Vegetto Blue's power being greater than Beerus'.
    And now, Chapter 24

    ---

This chapter has a fairly significant difference. It mentions how all attendants of a Supreme Kai have healing abilities, and it's revealed that Trunks was made the Supreme Kai's attendant just before he fought Dabura in the future. So he had healing abilities that he wasn't even aware of until the Supreme Kai offhandedly mentioned it.

Zamasu also has cool portal abilities he didn't have in the anime.

Must admit I prefer the manga fight of this over the anime.

Yeah, there's just more interesting stuff happening in it.

    Big changes here:
Goku uses Beerus' destruction technique, that's a biggun'
Zamasu's fusion runs out, but he refuses to come apart, so Trunks cuts him in half in a badass scene that could have been the end
But it wasn't, because now every time Zamasu looses a piece of himself, he turns into another Zamasu. I assume this is where Goku is going to have to use The Button, but that's where it ended off.

    Goku using hakai was badass!

Ends mostly the same as the anime, only Zamasu just splits into a ton of clones instead of filling up the sky. But Goku still wins by calling Zeno erasing the entire universe. Just that scene from last chapter of Trunks cutting Zamasu in half, but that was a normal attack.

Also, no Spirit Sword attack in this.

This chapter spends more time fleshing out the Gods of Destruction that the entire Universe Survival arc has so far in the manga...

Toppo is actually supposedly being trained to become U11's next God of Descruction.

They actually show the moment when Zeno decides he's going to erase the 8 lowest universes. Goku showing up to remind them of the tournament is literally just in time to keep all 8 from getting erased.

The most amazing change though is the exhibition match. Instead of Goku, Gohan and Buu fighting the 3 wolf guys, all 12 of the Gods of Descruction have a match with each other.

That's what I also really liked about the manga. Seeing the gods more fleshed out. Having them fight each other.
The anime just wants to give Goku the most screen time.

I also think Toppo being trained as the next GoD is some kind of lie. Belmod doesn't seem like he's in any hurry to give up his position.

I think he's just doing things that are interesting to fight off boredom. Raising a disciple would be one of those things. Maybe it ain't his first and the rest just weren't strong enough.

The God of Destruction fight was cool while it lasted. Looks like Beerus and Quitela might be the two strongest fighters(but also Belmod, who seemed to just be playing possum).

Also, interesting change to have Toppo actually defeat Goku. But then, I he didn't use SSJB Kaioken like he did in the anime. In fact, I don't think he used it against Hit either. I'm not sure the manga has used SSJB Kaioken at all.

I noticed the rules specified "No weapons or medecine". Which means things like the mafuba jar and the potara earrings would be legal.

This chapters also gives Jiren 10x more characterization than the anime ever did. It shows the kind of person he is, what motivates him, what his objectives are. The anime has NONE of that. You're just kind of left to ASSUME that he cares about justice because he's a Pride Trooper. But the manga makes it very explicit.

How the fuck is it possible to have a manga more detailed than a concurrent (Unlimited Broadcast Works) running anime?

Well that's a fairly easy question to answer. More time.

The anime is doing it's usual cranking out of episodes a week at a time. Meanwhile, the manga is just going at it's own leisurely pace. It's under no obligation to try and catch up with the anime, so it can take as much time as it wants to include as much detail as the writer feels like adding.

I ran into this video that does a really good job of covering a lot of the things I'd been mentioning here:

Just caught up on this. Tournament is WAY faster in the manga than the anime. Tons of characters are getting wiped out without even getting a chance to do anything. Frost takes out Krillin and Tien in, like, one hit each before either gets to eliminate anyone.

It's obvious they're going to blow through this as fast as they can for some reason(even though, with the anime on hiatus, there's no rush for them to catch up).

Only good change so far is they changed the nature of Hits new ability he uses on Jiren to something that makes a little more sense. Instead of stopping time indefinitely and having Jiren just power out of it, it's now just a time slow that Jiren is so fast that, even slowed, he's able to defeat Hit.

I love the gag that Krillin is super hot by Ribrienne's universe's standards.

Kale is also a much more interesting character here in the manga. Where instead of being meek and unsure, she knows she's stronger than Califla, but doesn't show it because she doesn't want to hurt Califla's pride. And then she eliminates FOUR universes! She's handled much better here than in the anime.

I also like that Califla pickpocketed the Potara instead of being given them. Because she's a delinquent.

Also, looks like Gohan is gonna face down Kefla instead of Goku.

Yes, instead of doing a chapter a minute like the anime, like 3/4ths of the tournament went buy in like 3 chapters.

So while the end result was the same(Frieza and Goku taking Jiren out together, leaving 17 to win), it wasn't NEARLY as cool as it was in the anime. With 17 still being alive being revealed only after everyone else was eliminated. He didn't even take part in the final battle.

And there's even a little "Insert Broly Movie here" page in the epilogue.

Basically, unlike previous arcs, this whole are was just shit here in the manga. You know how this tournament is, like, 50 episodes in the anime? It's like 10 chapters of the manga. I guess you could say that makes most of this arc in the anime filler, but absolutely everything in this arc is rushed in the manga.
