I think his point is that sex and sex scenes aren't inherently pointless even if they don't develop the plot or characters. According to Mfauli, sex scenes or the presence of sexual intercourse, even if implied, is important in making the characters more believable.
The sheer absence of sex in shounen stories is very glaring, especially in harem and romance titles.
Regardless if Mfauli is being truthful about his assertion or not, the assertion itself has merit. Normal people do have sex, and it is very unnatural how mainstream anime (typically shounen and similar) treat it like a taboo.
