In the past I've been wanting some ecchi stuff, because I was horny. I will do that again if I feel like that.

Hmmmmeh,

Dwarves are always cool though, best fantasy race ever.
At least there was a reason for these creatures to be there en masse when the city has already moved away since forever.
That's the only really positive thing I can say about this episode.

All the other stuff happening was, while somewhat interesting, not really something that gets me hyped up for the next episode.
And some things didn't even have any reason.

For example, what was this gnoll-like creature doing when it started talking about Ainz. Just why? If they want the floor guardians to swoon over Ainz and protect him, there are way better ways of doing that.

Well. Another misunderstanding. I didn't particularly care for this one. Ainz's anchoring bias even stopped him from realising the Death Knights fell to death.

The good thing is that we got the ribbon notebook scene out of it.

My bigger question is why are those death knights so weak that they would die from a fall? A fall can only do so much damage due to terminal velocity. That means a strong enough brute force, like a catapult or ballista, can take them out.

Depends on if this world still has game mechanics that make falls from certain heights fatal I guess. Characters still have things like HP after all.

In terms of physics, a fall could do more damage than the two things you mentioned because a fall causes you to suddenly decelerate to zero (assuming a straight fall from a height tall enough to reach terminal velocity), while getting hit by the other options allows for various counteroptions. None of those options make sense from a real-life human body perspective, but options nontheless.

Do you mean the death knights block or dodge the projectiles? Then yes, those are easy counters to take. What I meant was in terms of pure damage, those siege weapons hitting them can kill them if a fall can.

Seems strange for them to die because it is a "lethal height" fall in game terms. That means even level 100 characters like Ainz can die if he slipped into that ravine and did not do anything. I bet he and his entire crew can facetank that fall though.

I mean perform anime shit like "Jump in the air to take the catapult hit, have it knock him into the air and fly away" instead of pancaking him etc.

I guess people perform anime moves for falls as well, where they land on their feet and make a giant crater instead of having all their weight bearing bones fracture, not counting organ damage from sudden deceleration.

I do think that a level 100 like Ainz would die if he fell 800m and did nothing. Or should die, if I should say. He "wouldn't" die because this is Overlord.

Well, like Buff said, if this world runs on game mechanics, then the chasm could simply be considered an "instant death pit".

Like in Elden Ring, no matter how powerful your character gets, an instant death pit is still an instant death pit.

Actually, not at all.
There is nothing convenient about it in the first place (it just isn't, as much as green isn't red), and it's not bad writing, but rather "good writing" because Ainz is just Ainz and not some all knowing god.
It's just natural to assume something, or maybe in his case it's wishful thinking.

I'd expect him to die if he actually fell unconscious and dropped down.
I'd expect all the guardians and Ainz or whatever to have skills to prevent fall damage when they are "active"
Curious, I wonder how this seems unnatural (for a lack of a better word) to you? As in: What caused it?
Isn't that just how it is in about as much as all games you have ever played? Not the "prevent fall damage skills"-part but the "my playable character drops down a cliff and dies" part.

Most games (maybe not all, but probably the very, very vast majority) kill you when you drop down 10 meters the same way at lvl 1 and at lvl 100 when you have 500000% more HP and resilience - at least from 2000-2022 and will do so for the next decade or so for sure.

It didn't even occur to me that it could be anything but that tbh. It is my believe that every single being would be affected in the same exact way, even a dragon or whatever else someone can come up with.

I was just curious what others thought. Ainz has been shown to tank physics defying attacks, and a fall at terminal velocity is within the bounds of real world physics. So I wondered if his otherworldly game stats can overcome real life dangers, like that fall.

I honestly didn't consider the game mechanic of simply dying because that chasm was labeled as a bottomless pit or sure death area.

EDIT:

On another topic, I found it hilarious how the twin figured out that the Death Knights fell to their death because he noticed the scent, but after seeing how happy Shalltear is from receiving teachings from Ainz (and not wanting to embarrass Ainz himself), just chose to keep quiet. Strange enough, those twins are the ones who see Ainz the clearest because they don't treat him with the same reverence as the other guardians.

What was also funny (to me) and we didn't talk about was Shalltear holding the booze up high when she demanded silence from the dwarves.
Did I miss something or is that really what she did and used it for?

That's just... beyond adorable and funny and literally no one questioned it, most likely not even the viewer because it all seemed so natural.

I saw that too. Dwarves apparently like liquor so much they will focus on it if you wave it around, like cats and lasers.

It was also funny how she inadvertently stole Ainz's thunder. Ainz really wanted to say the line "Silence!" (or whatever they translated it as) but got talked over by Shaltear. He wanted to say it so much he took another (successful) stab in the same episode just minutes after.

It's called anchoring bias.

I wouldn't say it's "bad writing" as much as just Ainz being Ainz. I'd even argue that he's predispositioned to this because he keeps hoping to find new players, so when something might suggest a new player he (consciously or not) holds onto that idea.

I feel disappointed at that scene because I had hoped that he'd at least consider the possibility of the knights dropping to their death, but I get that this kind of bias happens and isn't "I'm going to write an insanely dumb character".

I think that this encounter highlights Ainz's character quite well. The dude actually thinks a lot (I previously called him thoughtless). But what he thinks about is based on his own desires/lense. He often doesn't end up thinking about stuff that others think matters.

I've seen someone call this "Misunderstanding - the anime", and it's pretty apt.
