You're describing Dumbo with his feather. Is the feather actually magic and makes him fly? Or can he fly regardless and he simply believes the feather is magic?

As for why Goku becomes all hot, why he only gets into this state after getting utterly owned, and why he only does this after absorbing a ton of energy or seems to drain "stamina", it's anybody's guess.

It's just marketing. It's giving Goku a new form they can sell figurines of.

After all, Instant Transmission is an amazing new power for Goku, but they can't sell merchandise of Instant Transmission. Not like they can sell Vegito or SSJ3 merchandise.

I can't find that quote. I know I heard it somewhere before. I thought Bruce Lee said it. I guess I am wrong. I can't find it. I know I heard that quote some where before.

The quote was discussing a fight between martial artists and if you fought like say the Karate Kid, with no Intent to kill, you will lose, which is true.

If you fought with just defending yourself, you will lose.

If you fight every fight with the intent to kill, you will win every fight. I don't know why but I thought Bruce Lee said this concerning fights between Martial Artists.

At least that is how I remember the discussion. I guess I am wrong.

After going over many of Bruce Lee's quotes. His quotes are far from Mushin and far from anything Confucius-ism. Some are arguing that Bruce Lee's comment on be water is him advocating Mushin. Water and the state of water is far from Mushin, especially flowing water.

I think many want to try and throw this angelic meaning behind everything, including fighting. I believe that is wrong. There is nothing.

Probably nailed it with the marketing there. Be nice if they actually wrote these stories based on some provable fact though. Fiction and Fantasy is just that though. The DBS team is ruining DBS IMO.

It's true that Bruce Lee's JKD is not Mushin. It's about learning different techniques and adapting them to your situation. He advocates flexibility and not to be locked into one particular style, but not an empty mind that is without intent. According to him, at the highest level of JKD you intercept not only the opponent's fists, but their thoughts. I interpret this as predicting/reading their intentions and acting on it before they can act it out.

Interestingly, Mushin is also incompatible with feinting techniques. It's kind of hard to keep an open, empty mind when you're baiting someone.

It's funny, but this exact concept was introduced into One Piece waaaaay back during Luffy's fight with Enel.

One of Enel's powers is knowing what you're going to do before you do it, so Luffy counters this by switching off his brain. Which causes his body to dodge Enel's attacks instinctively.



Unfortunately, Luffy realizes that there's no way for him to actually attack back in this state, so he abandons it almost immediately and never uses it again for anything else.

Somehow...doesn't quite have the same impact as Ultra Instinct...

For his time, he did a lot of things right.

-Focus on nutrition and body conditioning instead of solely on techniques.
-Realising that no style is superior to another, and that one should add whatever works for him into their repertoire.
-Popularising martial arts on screen that lead to the boom of martial arts action films which were big up to the late 90s. They're still around, but are much fewer in number and lacking young blood since being an action star isn't the coolest thing around anymore.

This is even more so in Western films. That's why I was so surprised to watch Captain America: Winter Soldier. Those fights and choreography seem to only get rarer and rarer these days.

Sure, but that was for his time, and also didn't mean he was a great fighter. I'm pretty sure a lot of MMA competitors right now will wreck him, especially because of his lack of grappling techniques.

For the lack of grappling techniques, yeah most likely. I suppose you have to wonder if Bruce was alive today and saw the current scene though, whether he'd pick up something since that's what he's all about. Regardless of that, Bruce was relatively light so we'd have to find someone of that weight to match him.

The other thing is too, that MMA kinda does away with groin kicks and eye stabs.. and biting. We'll never know, since he got KOed by aspirin (or so the official report reckons).

It's not really that surprising that grappling is so powerful in MMA because you are more or less required to pad all the parts of your body you would strike with, whereas grappling is much less restricted.

But yeah, like Buff said, if grappling is the thing that proved to be the most effective, I suspect Bruce Lee would have just learned some grappling.

It's not a hot take. I'm honestly surprised that people don't seem to know a lot of facts about the guy and how it relates to reality. Buff is the exception.

The whole UI thing I think is wrong for how they are trying to explain it.

I get what many of you mean by comparing it to Mushin. The explanation given for it just seems wrong for the environment Goku is in.

Hopefully they take an episode or so to detail what UI really is. All this speculating based on the vague whis meanings and in what has happened is not allowing me to have good thoughts that the anime can somehow progresss beyond this.

Yeah great episode. Also kinda bummed out Piccolo couldn't come up with that before the tournament. I mean he could have been a lot stronger that way. Either way, two universes down. I think Vegeta is taking it the hardest out of all of them. I mean right now, they are the only Sayians again. Back to being an extinct race.

Ah, well, Namekian fusion seems to require willing participants. I'm not sure he'd find as many willing(or useful) participants on his own Namek given that all of the warrior class were killed off.

Don't think Kami was a warrior class and still fused with him to give him a massive power boost. We don't know how much of a boost it gives him when it's with others though.
And if you say that if we lose our universe gets erased, then I'm sure you'll find willing participants.
