Vegeta will always lose to Goku, that makes him frustrating to watch. Gohan has at least a tiny chance of achieving awesomeness, because heīs the heroīs son.

I don't need Vegeta to win in order to be the best character.
I donīt need him to win, either, but Iīd like for there to exist a mere chance at him winning just for once. And the way dragon ball history went down, thereīs not even a chance. ;(

The problem with Vegeta is that he wants to surpass Goku, but Goku knows a bunch of abilities he doesn't. And he doesn't either A. Learn those abiliies(Kaioken, Spirit Bomb, Instant Transmission, etc.) OR develop NEW techniques that Goku DOESN'T have.
He occasionally creates a new attack, but it's always just a bigger attack, which ends up not being any stronger than whatever Kamehameha Goku is using at the time.
Compare that to, say, Hit, who does much better against Goku than Vegeta typically does because he has DIFFERENT abilities.
The problem with Vegeta is that he isn't the protagonist. Instead, we have a manchild.
Peace.
And said manchild really has proven by now that he doesnīt give a shit about saving anybody. He just cares about fighting strong opponents. Thatīs alright. But I donīt see Goku as a hero anymore. Gohan would be PERFECT for the hero role. He cares about his family, about other people. Fighting to him is a tool to means end. He fights because itīs necessary, not because he enjoys it.
Ideally, the story would tell two plot lines. One following Goku, one Gohan. Maybe have them team up, but center Gohan as the hero, with Goku causing screw ups of epic proportions.
In the end, Goku is no better than Brolly ;/

Is the Bleach manga worth reading? I always read about how fun Aizen is, but the anime never got there.
And, maa, on the one hand Gokuīs motivaton is okay. On the other hand, heīs sooo dumb, it always backfires.

...are you sure? I mean. I'm only an anime watcher and I've gotten quite a lot of Aizen just from that.
But according to the Bleach done thread the manga gets pretty terrible after the anime.
I didn`t feel like it was bad, but the villian was kinda weird and the ending rushed to hell. imo all those arrancar fights killed the momentum.

just watched the new episode... lol @ jaco calling gohan "the incompetent son of goku"...
if only this had alittle more parody and was better animated, this had the vibe of OPM where "monsters" appeared in the city and heroes in disguise with ridiculous names would came to save the day. still waiting for pan chan to go super saiyan a toddler just to say that she has the potential to be the strongest of the saiyans...
next episode is a goku/krillin training session, just for the nostalgia? maybe this will finally unlock a new form for the human race so they can come back from being useless?
That was so painfully true. Every time Gohan got punched I cried a little inside. Where's the hero who wasted Cell with a one-handed Kamehameha? Where's the kid who held back because he was afraid of destroying the Earth with his power?Originally Posted by Fort
Yeah, he "held back" here, but it looks too much like he was struggling.
Videl's still awesome at least.
If it's not Isuzu-chan Mii~
Barry Khun was such a dream.

Iīd really like to know how strong that monster-Barry was. On one hand, I agree that Gohan took way too much of beating, on the other hand, you never know how strong those alien monsters really are.
Still, damn, gimme back strong Gohan :/
Also, are these episodes filler or canon now? I read ForteCrossī posting and Iīm thinking "yeah, would be awesome if Kuririn found a power-up while fighting Goku", but then I think "meh, those are all filler-ish joke episodes anyway, so probably not ..."

I guess it depends whether they were in Toriyama's outline or not. If they don't show up in the manga at all when the manga gets to that part, then they probably weren't.
Speaking of which, I've been catching up on the manga.
In the manga, Black didn't kill the Kioshin in Trunk's time. Kioshin died fighting Bibidi and Dabura, which made Beerus cease to exist, which is why Black apparently chose that time/universe to attack.
Also, Trunks was training with the Z Sword like Gohan did, but Dabura attacked just before he broke it upon and would have released the Old Kai, and during the fight, the Z Sword was turned to stone, then destroyed. And since Old Kai didn't appear from that, I assume he died.
Interesting changes. Although I really wish Trunks had received Old Kai's mystical ritual. Because that would have gone a long way towards explaining why he was almost as strong as Saiyan Gods.

They gave the manga artist the general plot but let him fill out how he was going to reach that point. Which is why it is so different from the anime. In the manga Whis also states that using SSB repeatedly greatly weakens that form. Using it two times in a row reduces it's power by 10 times. Which is why Vegeta lost so badly to Hit since he had shown that other Saiyan that form existed.
My understanding is that's how BOTH versions are. Toriyama comes up with the general plot, but both the manga artist and the the anime studio fill them out their own way.
That kinda means NEITHER version is really canon. Unless Toriyama comes out and says one is more than the other.
The only thing you can really take as canon is what appears in both I guess.
I feel like the manga coming out later is far more refined and coherent, (The Hit and Black fights for example). So i take that as canon. These few episodes are filler, including the last two.
