There's Fava's opinion, there's the fact that a dead body just disappeared back into energy. I can't find a quote at the moment, but apparently the Dragon in the alternate dimension mentioned something about Bahamut being a force of nature and being older than time.

But I was under the impression the Heaven took the body instead of having it remain on the mortal plane.
