Light novels are generally not merely bad, they're terrible. I can only name two series I even enjoyed reading the LN, and the writing in one of them was largely nonsensical, a huge step down from the nearly nonsense anime.

The anime/OVAs/movies based on actual novels? I can name few that are even bad.
