A good movie, imo. It shows dramatic historical events in a light-hearted way. It reminded me a little bit of Grave of the Fireflies, probably cause of the setting.
That boy's judo skills on that bully were l33t. Too bad I didn't see more of that. Some good ol' tsundere action from his little sister there, always fun. Awesome interaction between him and his employer. Little guy was a BOSS.
The protagonist's voice acting left a little to the imagination, maybe purposely so, but was annoying at some points. It did seem Miyazaki made a lot of effort into making it a classic. Felt like this movie tried so hard, but still missed a little of that Ghibli magic.
Or maybe it's just me. An enjoyable watch none the less.
