Thread: Blocky Video

1. #1
I'm trying to watch GitS:SAC and some of the episodes have blocky imagery. Like around areas of movement it gets all...blocky, like this:

Can I fix this by using certain codecs, or a different player?

You should check with someone else with the episode though to make sure the file just isn't encoeded poorly, because if thats the case not much you can do.

If your computer isnt fast enough to handle decompressing the file, then a player that requires less resources would be your best bet. (This is probably not the case if your other files play well)

And If the problem is the codec you will simply need to try different versions.

I actually use to have problems with some Naruto eps where there was blockiness around motion after i changed from divX 5.02 to 5.05. but was resolved after I downgraded back to DivX 5.03.

There are other episodes that play fine, it's just a few are blocky.

I can't beleive i have to ask this... Where do I check to see which codec I have, and how do I change it if need be?

Well if you go to Start... Settings... Control Panel... Add or Remove Programs
all of your installed codecs or codec packs should be listed within that.

To check the file itself to see if its DivX or Xvid, right click it, choose Properties, then click the summary tab.

Before you remove any codecs though make sure you know what exactly what it was incase other files stop working and you need to put it back.

Hmm...
Ok, I have
Divx Codec 5.0.2 pro bundle
Divx Codec 5.0.3 pro bundle
and another just says Divx Pro Codec

Mpeg layer 3 codec FHG Radium v1.263

PICVideo Codecs
and XviD MPEG-4 codec

The AVI i'm trying to view has DivX listed as it's video compression.

I tried watching it in BS Player, DivX, and windows media player. All blocky

That image seems to be indicative of a corrupted file. Redownload your episode and it will be fine, or get a zidrav patch file for it
