That, and it seems all the fights are also televised inside the arena at least once combatants meet.
Gray's fight was pretty unexciting, and I really shouldn't have had my hopes up for it. The author just can't seem to make his power cool any more since the most he can do is make objects and attack with them.
If it's not Isuzu-chan Mii~
as someone who marathoned the whole series for the first time recently, I'm interested in that part.
The only time where I thought Gray's power is "cool" was in the Movie and whenever someone casts that ice-prison thing which destroys your own body if you decide to use it, solely because the casting sequence and stance looks stylish
aside from what the guild thinks about him, his power was always one of the weakest and most boring in my book.
gray's fights: ice lance, ice shield, (poorly animated) random ice spikes emerge from the ground and him getting beaten to a pulp 99% of the time

Maybe I'm remembering wrong, but I've a feeling it was better in the manga. Honestly, watching the fight in this episode, I don't think Gray's last attacks looked so extraordinary the memory maker shouldn't have been able to deal with them.
Happy's idea was great, though. Too bad Yukino didn't participate; she's cute. But I guess she has too bad recent memories of needing to strip in front of people.
I agree it did feel better in the manga.
His ice-7-swords thing is my favourite.
