I can't really blame anybody for underestimating Tatsuya as nobody should be that overpowered. We can't really even have a decent fight in this story, of Tatsuya vs an equal, as they would need to fight on some remote, unpopulated island in the middle of an ocean. Otherwise they would kill millions of outsiders.

Given what he has shown us so far, Tatsuya is absurdly powerful offensively, but defensively his main asset is self healing. He does not have a decent barrier, and relies on canceling the moves of the opponents before they are executed. Ichijou managed to easily overpower him when he got serious.
The reason most opponents are unable to stand a chance against Tatsuya is because no one knows what the hell he is capable of. If they did, they would snipe him in the head from afar. His heart was hit just fine.
Magicians don't need to nuke the area to kill. Just a single blow to the head is enough, and there are millions of ways to accomplish that. If the fights so far have shown us anything, it is that this isn't Dragon Ball. You don't get up from a beating and defeat enemies using willpower. It is all specs, tactics, and execution.

Though I don't deny I would enjoy seeing Tatsuya's head blown off, preferably right in front of poor Miyuki's eyes, it still wouldn't qualify for a decent fight. A decent fight would last for a plausible time (in fiction terms), not being so short it would be meaningless, nor so long it would get boring. Neither side would be able to gain a clear upper hand before the end, when one side would finally win in a satisfying manner.

1) Tatsuya self healing was shown to be nearly instantaneous so i'm sure that he would keep regenerating while something penetrates his skull - it is not like his brain whole would be destroyed at the same time
2) he has weird radar-like thingy which can detect people through walls, and read spells while they are being cast(which takes fraction of second) - he could easily detect the bullet. then obliterate it.
3) it was shown this ep that he can cast spells instantaneously - or tell me what was that weird cloud that physically hurt body of Lu Ghongu.
all factors combined - Tatsuya is jesus. he cannot be killed by any means and can defeat anything.

Why do you even need to destroy the whole brain? Just damaging it enough for his auto heal to not be usable is enough. The brain is sensitive. A normal bullet should do. A high powered sniper rifle will probably obliterate his head anyway.

Honestly, I've never been too much into the incest storylines... though incest-themed porn is hot. That said, there's something about incest in Japanese animation that they seem to always make the sister of interest the most annoying character in the series.
I don't know, I really don't like Miyuki... part of me wants to see her killed off for a more awesome sister to show up randomly.

Japan as depicted in many anime: the only place in the world where high school students are expected to act as security detail for their own events and where it's acceptable to respond to the question of "do you notice anything strange" with "yes, there's too many white people around."
They are artificially created or genetically altered teenagers, so yeah.
If the kids are stronger and have more experience (like Ichijou and Tatsuya) than adults, why not?
This isn't a Japan thing, but a Mahouka thing. I'm pretty sure other countries also employ youths if they can offer valuable assistance.

Maybe it should have been obvious from the beginning and I simply failed to accept it, whereas others did, but finally it seems clear to even me the generation of magicians that has grown to high school age now is different from earlier mages. There might have been lone aberrations before, though not enough to make a difference, but looking at the bigger picture the older magicians, compared to the ones that are populating high schools and younger, are like hay carts compared to helicopters. Who knows what happened between them, some huge breakthrough in human genetic engineering that was applied on a national level or something else, but that's the only thing which can explain the great many strange things here, including a high school magic sports meeting being such a big thing, being responsible for their own security, and coming up with flight magic or nuclear fusion, to only mention a few examples. The older generations simply weren't capable of such magic, otherwise they would have been invented already and school kids would never be patrolling the grounds wearing bulletproof vests.
Well, 3 more episodes to go and this series will be done.
Seems like there's a lot to cover still, so I hope it has a second season and what not.
In any case, didn't care much for this episode... more of a tease for what's coming up, setting the table.

I don't quite get what was the point of that whole last scene of the military officer first revealing Tatsuya's position in the army (though not the rank, as if that mattered more) and then Miyuki having the knight and the princess theatrical piece performed, all in front of the big gallery. Couldn't the officer perhaps have invited Tatsuya (and Miyuki I guess, since it would have been difficult to leave her behind) to a different room first? While it's typically nice to watch other established characters get surprised by the main character, it was somewhat forced and meaningless in this case. The emotionless Tatsuya himself naturally doesn't give a shit, and I believe Miyuki in some perverse fashion actually enjoys doing things with Tatsuya in public. Of course there's always also the beneficial side that when their normal student image (if they ever even had such) cracks, she gets to keep Tatsuya all the more to herself. Although I thought it was Miyuki who wanted to play a normal school girl and Tatsuya was only humouring her, but whatever.
Other than that, just how fricking long can it take them to sink the bloody ship?
I thought the same about the rank issue, but then I think what she actually meant was that Tatsuya being a special officer is a classified matter, so all present there are not at liberty to reveal Tatsuya for who he is to anyone else... I think that was the intention.
Anyways, not going to over-think the episode. I enjoyed the action, and if I heard correctly Tatsuya is about to become even more badass than he currently is? Can't wait...
LOL I've just come to accept this entire series as just a big fucking joke and orgy-fest for Tatsuya to show off his skills.
Loved the scene with Cardinal George.
