    TV: Bates Motel

Season 1 of Bates Motel is 10 episodes long and aired during Spring of last year. It's a present-day prequel to Alfred Hitchcock's 1960 movie Psycho following the awesome Norman Bates.

Was a bit skeptical how they were going to pull-off a prequel that takes place in modern day, but I think they did it quite well. It's the present, but it has a dated vibe to it that if you didn't see some of the new technology you could've easily thought it was taking place decades ago.

Just watched the first episode and quite enjoyed. Was quite surprised to see that this show aired on A&E considering the nature of this series, in particular the first episode featured quite a brutal rape & murder scene which would've felt right at home for a show that could've aired on late night FX.

From the actors, the one I took notice of first what Vera Farmiga who plays the mother as I'm a big fan of hers. Then there's Freddie Highmore playing Norman Bates and I think he's doing a great job so far. Lastly, also noticed Nicola Peltz having a role here, who some of you might remember her as Katara in the now infamous The Last Airbender movie. All I can say about her is that she's growing up quite nicely.

Anyone here watched the first season or tried the series? The second season begins on early March so now might be a good time to catch up.

I saw the whole season when it aired and I loved it, my only complain is that the whole modern day thing isn`t needed since they rarely use up to date technology and the characters usually wear old fashioned clothes, watch black and white tv and drive old cars, then out of nowhere, iPhone...

Yeah, that was when I started scratching my head... but I'm only one episode in, already made peace with it.

Let me know how you find it. I'm 4 episodes in right now, and really enjoying it. Norman is great, innocent and odd... but little by little we start seeing how messed up he is, which is awesome.

I'm a little further along than you were here, and I am really liking it. Norma is creepy.
