    TV: Banshee



    Banshee is a Cinemax original series, and might just be my current favorite. It goes over-the-top at times, at times quite ridiculous, but it more than makes up for it in pure awesomeness. Extremely violent with plenty of action, and plenty of ass and tits for those that like nudity with their tv viewing.

    We're currently on the 2nd episode of the second season, and it airs on Fridays.

    Any of you watched this series yet?

    Yea one of my current favorites also. It's quite ridiculous how much tail he gets though. Is there any female on this show he hasn't slept with yet? But i don't complain. I love me that yummy nudity.

    It's a Skinemax show, so it has to have lots of nudity. So is the main character an anti-hero, or just a bad guy (like Walter White if you think about it)? I don't think I could root for a bad guy, again.

    Man, that's very difficult to answer, but he's more of an anti-hero than a bad guy like Walter. In a vacuum, he's a bad guy, but in contrast to Walter White, he's not a villain like he was.

    Just give it a try, there's enough action and nudity to keep your mind off things.

    Saw the first episode of season 1, pretty good, show has some promise. I'll say none of the sex scenes are particularly memorable (unlike with AD in True Detectives, which while just nudity trumps anything in this first ep).

    I like the "subtlety" of naming him Sheriff Hood. It looks like he'll be an anti-hero, stealing from the villainous Proctor and disrupting his plans all the while. I get a distinct "Justified" vibe from this show, a cop who doesn't follow the rules and has a nemesis bad guy to duel with.

    Cool, glad you enjoyed it. I personally didn't think all that much of the first episode when I started watching it, other than it was fun... it got better along the way.

    As for your perception of what the show is going to be about, I'll hold my tongue... I'll just say, you're not entirely accurate. I think the context with which you brought up Justified was well put, I think the relationship between Boyd and Givens has a bit of parallel with that of Hood and Proctor... but just a bit.

    Saw the second episode, pretty good. It looks more like Hood will be a good guy sheriff who relies on his criminal background to survive. My original guess at the theme of the show is tempered by him having to look out for his maybe daughter and the lovely deputy Kelly.

    It's funny with shows like this, you can usually guess when the random sex scene is about to happen. I was wrong however, since he didn't bang the widow Kat Moody, though they were at a wake. Then of course he got it on with the Dutch girl. I'm guessing he won't bang deputy Kelly in the first season.

    Pretty good series so far, worth seeing.

    Yeah slowly but surely. Unfortunately it's not one of those series that grabs and intrigues and makes you want to marathon the show. I saw season 1 ep 3 and it was pretty badass. He fights the pro fighter and showed dirty street fighting trumps sport fighting.

    Yeah, that fight was epic... I think that was the episode that convinced me of the series all told. And yeah, I can see how this series might not lend itself to a marathon as there's not much intrigue going for it carrying from episode to episode early on. It does pick up steam after a few more episodes, so we'll see.

    Just saw "Wicks" where he runs into a guy he knew from prison and has several flashbacks from those days. I think it set a different tone for Hood's character, one that I don't like, where he won't let anyone stand in his way or threaten him or Carrie/Ana. I guess it's not a spoiler since it's been out a while, but I think it sucks that he paid back the guy's kindness in prison by killing him. If not for Wicks, Hood might not have survived prison.

    Didn't he help Wicks against his better judgement, but then Wicks started taking advantage of Hood? I don't recall much of that situation, but that's the impression that I recall... and on that regard, I'm fine with Wicks' ending.

    It was only to protect his situation in Banshee, not for any higher moral reason. He got him out of jail for shoplifting, gave him $2k, and told him to hit the road and don't come back. Of course Wicks is a lifetime loser and blows the $2k on cocaine and gambling at the local Indian casino, at which point Hood has to get him out of jail time and again tells him to leave. At that point Wicks refuses and demands in on Hood's racket. With all the flashbacks to Wicks and Hood's time in prison and all that Wicks did for him there, Wicks deserved better than what Hood was offering now that the roles were reversed.

    Meh, Wicks got what he got coming to him... Hood's situation is fragile as it is to risk jail time even further, and we already saw how fun jail time was for him, because of some loose cannon like Wicks who can't be trusted.

    So yeah, I really don't care on that regard.
