Luffy isn't trying at all. However, as opposed to that I found it only amusing Zoro didn't even bother to get up when they were pestered by the small dragon. He has already reached the point where he will rather leave small fries for others to take care of.
So, the smaller dragon was in fact Mononosuke (or whatever) turned into a dragon? Caesar certainly has strange skills and techniques.
I think they're just trying to stretch out Luffy's fight scenes for time here. I'm not a big fan of it either, Monet is acting like a cheesy filler villain.Originally Posted by Kraco
