Description: Tohsaka Rin and Luviagelita Edelfelt are magi from the Clock Tower, the headquarters of the Mage's Association, and they were sent by its director to collect Class Cards, each holding the powers of a Servant from the Holy Grail War. To aid in their quest, they were handed two powerful magic wands, Rin receiving Magical Ruby and Luvia taking Magical Sapphire.

However, due to the two girls' inability to get along, the wands got fed up with them and broke their contract. Ruby then sought a new master, and found one in an unsuspecting school girl by the name of Illyasviel von Einzbern. Despite Illya's protests, Ruby insisted in making a magical girl out of her, and she is now Prisma Illya. With no knowledge in magecraft and no previous training of her own, being in fact a completely normal young girl with no outstanding abilities, now she must collect the powerful Class Cards using whatever limited aid Rin can give her.

Why is Ruby so annoying?
She's meant to be that way. She's voiced by the same VA who does Kohaku in Carnival Phantasm and the Melty Blood games. Her previous VA is voicing Rin these days. Ruby is basically Kohaku's evil witch gag-personality, Magical Amber.

If Irisviel is still her mother, who are the two in the house? One of them acts like her mother.
Leysritt (Liz) has the short curly hair. Sella has the longer hair. They were Illya's maids in Fate/Stay Night. Trust me, they're there, though you might not recognize them from their appearances here.

Seriously guys, watch this. This actually makes fun of a lot of magical girl show archetypes without going overboard like others (Nyaruko, which is still funny nonetheless). It has a good balance between making a joke of itself and trying to deliver a plot (albeit basic).

Poor Ilya was always drawing the short straw in the FSN, so this show was desperately needed. Especially after FZ where we saw how awesome her mother was. I'm not all too sure about the backgrounds in this show, though. The round and moe character design makes everybody look even younger, but since Shirou is still a high schooler, Rin must have transferred to London before graduating high school first. Perhaps because there's no grail war to wait for? And because Shirou looks even more like a doofus, so he would certainly be no reason to stick around for.

Well, this show isn't about those crones and geezers anyway.

Ilya makes one of the funniest magical girls, there's no doubt of that (even if I'm a lousy judge since I haven't exactly watched that many magical girl shows). After four episodes I'm very happy with this.

I was only waiting for Saber. And this has been painful till now.
Greatest gripe goes againts Illya's voice that lacks life or something. I do not like how she's voiced . I guess I prefered the slight tsun and playful tones she has always had till that show.
But it's not like I liked Illya that much.

If those things are still the same, doesn't that mean that Illya is still older than the both of them?

I don't actually remember if it has been said how old / grade she is. But I certainly do get the vibes that she's younger than Shirou/Rin. Like a middle schooler. I guess they made such an alteration (she always looked younger, anyway, having been stunted). However, I don't see any particular reason why Shirou/Rin would have changed their relative ages. Considering we haven't even seen Shirou since the few scenes in the beginning, I don't think it matters at all in the bigger picture. I was merely wondering about the familiar background characters, ignoring their irrelevance.

I assumed she was in the later years of elementary school based on their apperance, where they are in the building (upper floors) and art and simple cooking class, but if they are doing volumetric geometry problems...I don't know wtf topics Japan teaches when.

It is cited as elementary school. Taiga bemoans that they don't do such advanced cooking in elementary school, but that might be a mistranslation because I've seen middle school called out elsewhere.

Taiga says Shogakkou, so it is Elementary School. Which makes the one of Ilya's friends, the yaoi art girl, that much more disturbing.

That said, it successfully incorporated some of the best actions/part of the FSN franchise.
You might not like the magical girl parts, but at least it delivers some action and special effects.
I'm a little sad we might not get more Saber though, unless there's some twist with the dark mask brealing and Illya activating Shiro's Hero form reality marble.

Since this is an alternate setting, they can "adapt" some details.
Morevover, we're talking about Illya, who isn't your typical girl. At least she should'nt be.
She has some powers/designs Shiro never had. So they can always use that as an explanation.

I assume the lock breaking means that Ilya has regained access to her full powers. I thought of it this way: The kaleidostick generates near-infinite prana at the cost of being obnoxious and humiliating its user. Ilya, by her nature, has near-infinite prana.

So she effectively doubled in power once she reunites with Ruby. As it stands, she turned herself into a self-sustaining servant for a few minutes.

She also doubled her cuteness having her hair up in the bun.

Wonder how much of a tough time they will have against a certain Bersercar.

Not too hard. They'd have to install a Gil-Archer card and let the Bersercar blow itself up with its cannon.

Or just have Miyu use the Rider card and run away. The Bersercar is pretty slow after all. Ilya could just fly upward I imagine, since the bersercar has a fixed cannon. Rin and Luvia would probably get blown up, but they are very resistant to falls and explosions in this series it seems.
