Now that's more like it! Just good ol' fashioned Kirito being badass in defiance of expectations.

I don't like that it looks like Kirito is going directly into this tournament. It means there won't be any cool badass drifter stage of this arc...

The light sabers being so expensive makes no sense when it´s explained how useless it really is.

Because it's a fucking LIGHTSABER! Even if it sucks, people would spend a bunch of money on it, because lightsabers are the fucking bomb yo!

And it feels silly to have a whole class of weapons that´s damage can be halved by wearing some inexpensive accessoire that everybody wears. Why not just make it half damage per default, then?

Because the different weapons are meant for different roles obviously. The beam weapons are for fighting monsters, who don't have shields. The ballistic weapons are for PvP.

I wonder if Kirito's sword will be half damage against shields since it's an energy weapon.

It's a lightsaber, and just like any lightsaber, it can deflect blaster bolts. And apparently bullets. I guess it vaporizes the latter.

I'd imagine that most people porting from ALO to GGO would be in a similar situation to Kirito (so the fantasy thing doesn't impact on his avatar).

Keep in mind though that, unlike anyone else porting over from ALO, that Kirito's ALO abilities were ported all the way from SAO. So his character's sword skills are probably about twice what any other player in existence's are.
