And despite my realization that I'm a decade older than my students, I'm still quite childish and playful. They tell me on a regular basis that I act like a little kid. So you're as young as you feel, but reading the numbers is slightly disconcerting.

Xan. I love you man. I can assure you that I am neither pretentious nor patronizing if only because I surround myself with people like you, who would not hesitate to call me out about such things. I must say you always put an interesting spin on my posts though. If I remember correctly you were the one who said you apply a "voice" to everyone's posts and you picture me as a guy running around with a machete

I'd be more concerned that you'd look down on a 40 year old who talked/acted like a 20 year old, or like someone immature or unknowledgable about the world. So I'd rather you didn't know my real age so you could actually base your judgment solely on my statements, not my age.

Lol, sounds like a commercial for Just For Men. Its alright my family turns gray in their 30's too. Though hopefully I won't, not that I would care. Probably would just shave my head anyway. Always wondered if I could pull off that look, too tedious though
The main reason for my white hairs is not age or maturity. I think it's mostly due to the stress of worrying about this one particular thing which I won't elaborate on here. I'm happy that when my hair is short or long, the white hairs are hidden pretty well.

For God will not permit that we shall know what is to come... those who by some sorcery or by some dream might come to pierce the veil that lies so darkly over all that is before them may serve by just that vision to cause that God should wrench the world from its heading and set it upon another course altogether and then where stands the sorcerer? Where the dreamer and his dream?

Well, she's still old but um...that's amazing. She *started* to get fit at 56 without ever being athletic before that point, then decided to become a competitive bodybuilder at 71. Even considering the role that genetics must play in this, that is encouraging. I worry about my mother's health and thought that it might be too late for her to start exercising and getting fitter, but this actually made me want to take another look.

This forum. No joke, I had been lurking on it since late 2003, and its almost 9 years later. I wonder where how many of us will be here in 4 years.

When I meet a nice looking girl, naturally assume she's around my age, only to find out she's early 20s. Geez I feel old. I've gotta get out of this mentality that I'm still that young because I'm not and one of these days it might land me in hot water. However, I look like I am, so whatever.

You feel older when you clearly know without asking she's in her 20s

I'm in the same boat. I work at a uni and there are all these 18-22 year olds running around. Right now it's freshman orientation so there are even more of them than usual. I'll check them out, forgetting that they are more than a decade younger than me.

Tell me how that isn't perfectly natural; someone in their 20's is an adult you know.

It is perfectly natural. Somewhere, a long time ago, I heard that men will in general always be attracted to females between the ages of 17 and 26, and that doesn't change with age. Too bad that at some point, you're a creepy old man for being attracted as such.

Exactly. For some reason you're considered creepy for showing any interest in girls any more than 5-7 years younger than you. That includes checking them out. Of course it's perfectly natural to be attracted to them, but it's also natural to fuck everything that moves, and that's generally frowned upon by modern society as well.

There's always that small population of young women who have a strong preference for relatively old[er] men, though.

Not in the pornographic movies or those gold-digging women you often see in media.

IMO, the youngest girl I'd date would be five years younger than me, but that number won't be at 5 just yet until I hit my 30's or so. It would be extremely nice if we both had the opportunity to retire close to the same time where she and I can spend the rest of our last days with each other.

    Ideally.

Well women tend to outlive men, so ideally you'd date a woman 7-10 years older than you, then you could spend your last days together. Otherwise you're being selfish and she'll have to spend her last 7-10 years alone and scared.

The 90`s was 20 years ago, the 80`s was 30 years ago :/
You cannot hope to build a better world without improving the individuals. To that end each of us must work for his own improvement, and at the same time share a general responsibility for all humanity, our particular duty being to aid those to whom we think we can be most useful. -Marie Curie

Lol 'some reason'; the reason is because people tend to care about what other people think of them, instead of just not giving a fuck.
If in your 50's you want to be with a 20 year old go do that, you're both adults and really shouldn't give a damn about anyone who isn't involved in your relationship be it promiscuous or serious.

Most human beings I know, live in a society, with family they care about and spend time with. They also have friends they care about and spend time with. They also have co workers, bosses, and a myriad of other relationships, many of which matter. So, you're a 50 year old guy, and you're dating a 20 year old girl, and you have all these relationships I mentioned. You get serious with the girl and you bring her to meet your family, and now everyone's mouth drops as they stand aghast. Your mother starts asking you snide questions making your mate uncomfortable. Your father thinks you're the man but can't even look at you because your mom'll give him hell. Your sister is uncomfortable with the whole thing and gives you a mouthful at some point.

This is just the beginning. As the relationship continues, your mom never warms up to the idea. Your sister might let it go for the most part, but when she's around your mom, she gangs up on you. It may even get to the point where there's outright confrontation to try and make you realize how "ridiculous" what you're doing is. This is just your family too; nevermind your friends or professional relationships. Yeah, you could not give a shit what anyone thinks, but for a lot of people this would come at a cost; either you deal with these people's shit, or you break off relationships with them. A similar thing happens with many interracial couples.

ds would like to think he lives outside the box and outside everyone's judgment and opinion of him. But he forgets this is the internet so he can talk as tough and free-spirited as he likes. In the real world, that shit doesn't cut it.

That's my point, people care too much about what others think of them and at the same time care an incredible amount about the personal lives of others.
My mom for instance went the extra mile for her relatives and they basically returned the favour with shit on a platter, so she distanced herself from most of them.
As soon as she started not giving a damn her life became better, now she basically only cares about herself and her sons.
And as long as I'm not living some sort of criminal life, she's fine with it.

So if I brought that 20 y/o girl to meet my mom, she wouldn't be snide about it; why? Because it doesn't affect her, regardless if we share the same beliefs or not.
And my friends are all people that accept me as I am, because I chose to surround myself with those people; what good would it do me to surround myself with people with whom I can't even be myself?
So yeah they wouldn't care either.

And co-workers, bosses are just that: colleagues; just because you share a work place or class room with someone doesn't automatically make them privy to your personal life and is thus basically none of their business.
So why, especially in an enviroment where business is seperated from pleasure, should I care at all about some guy's opinion on my life?
Heck my "boss" at my freelance gig is 10 years older than his girlfriend; he's happy, she's happy, we are happy for them.

    edit:
Ani I never realised you were such a spineless low esteem POS, aside from ofcourse the insane and morally skewed idiot you readily proved to be.

Good lord you're so full of shit man. Like I said, it's easy for you to talk big online about how independent and free of public judgment and how you live life to the fullest and only know the right people and everything is peachy. But we know from how you act out online that your life in real isn't anywhere near as cool as you pretend. That makes me feel old.

That's actually a much more plausible idea. However, my chances of dating an older women is next to none because I don't go to bars or clubs where all the cougars or the people in their mid/late twenties are even though I'm considerably ripe for "the picking" for my age right now. While it may be nice to be spoiled by an older and mature woman, I think it would remind me too much of my own mother and it would get pretty awkward during pillow talk.

I think after reading a lot of Ani's posts over the years, I've come to the conclusion that more than half of the things he says are troll material or that he's satirizing a multitude of personas ranging from the far-right, a pure libertarian and ignornace bigots. I wouldn't take it too personally, but it's definitely a bit difficult to tell when he's being serious or not. Like I said before, his writing is very excellent and definitely influences our emotions and responses to a varying degree when we read them.

Oh, and another thing that makes me feel old are the years proceeding the year 2000. I still keep thinking it's still 2006-2009.
