I want a fucking rulebook for these things, otherwise it'll just feel like they're taking the Guilty Crown route and making shit up as they go along.

Might want a copy of the changelog too since it gets updated fairly frequently it seems (or at least updates quickly after something weird is identified).

Firstly, Taku has points to spare now? They seemed to wipe his plate off way too cleanly this episode. If he was desperate for points, he wouldn't be burning through 3 points just to show a point to Chiyu.

If he got a lot of points back because he's tagging (and winning) with Haru in tag-matches... he must suck badly. I can see how a lvl4 can be low on points if he blew them in kendo matches but had trouble finding an opponent, but since matches can't be turned down he shouldn't have any trouble hunting weaklings - unless of course he sucks - in which case you have to wonder at how he got to lvl4 in the first place.

Bodyguard-chick sounds like she should be the data-compiler at the matches. Their spectacle frames don't match though.

For a zero-sum game (I'm assuming it is, from what's been explained), people seem way too happy about losing.

    - With lvl-ups costing in the hundreds and losing matches in tens, the model doesn't seem at all sustainable unless people are frantically spreading the program (to get lots of 100pt noobs), then farming all the incompetent ones for their points.

-Then there's a parent system, which normally means the Child of the relationship will supply a small amount (that may or may not be a cut out of his own winnings) to the parent. Again, this promotes frantic sharing unless there's also a limited invite system in place.

Basically the above two points indicate that the Burst Link system would benefit more from(or, depending on actual circumstances, perhaps the system actually relies on) having a large user-base, but that doesn't really seem to be the case since everyone's being all secretive about it. Kuroyuki herself found that no one at her school could Burst Link besides herself a while ago.

As for the deal with Kuroyuki.. my idea for a Taku-being-evil-and-plotting was that he'd tag along with Haru to build his points. He might have already have a lvl5 upgrade all this time, but didn't feel like using it with the amount of points he had. He'll farm enough points to level up, get a bonus power, then knock Haru flat for what he did. That's the jist of it.. but I don't seriously consider it as what's happening.

Continuing on from last time about how challenges and spectating work, apparently you can pound the shit through someone and they won't die if it's not a proper match.

Another interesting experiment is if someone next to you freezes time, do you freeze with them if you didn't Burst at the same time? If so, do you have the option of Bursting out afterwards to see what's going on?

It's been a while since I've agreed with you Ark. A rulebook would be nice.

    1) 4 points. and yes - he has them - they both earned about 200 points while fighting tag matches or so - Haru started with 100 points, lost 10, and gained 10(or so) and now he had 308 before leveling up.

    2) the game probably has some kind of level restriction for fighting - creating Tag team lowered the team average level to be lower than Taku - and as we know player with level less than 4 are noobs and mostly lose the program before reaching level 4. and Haru's avatar is OP.

    3) we don't know how many players are out there - if there is plenty of them the supply of fresh points should be high enough

    4) They are secretive because the oldest linkers are 15 years old - no one would believe them and general public would find them crazy.

    5) reaction time - you can both link at the same time(assuming that there is 1s window for action or so)... and when you get challanged you are pulled in without losing points i think.

Generally this author(of the novel) creates rules and sticks to them in 99% of cases(there was one exception in Sword Art Online)

This part. I'm not saying that adults need to know about this. I'm saying that if there is such a large user-base (and assuming lots of people have already dropped out from the project as well), there should be talk amongst school kids. It's been over 2 years (I forgot the exact number, 5?) since the game's been introduced. A good portion of kids would either have the program, or have previously used the program if the number of players and their turnover rate really is as large as it seems.

I couldn't see that number of people being able to keep to themselves.

A 1 second window wouldn't seem right. Burst Link accelerates your mind the moment you activate it so that you can pretty much freeze your surroundings for some time while you think. That means around you, everybody's mind (or indeed the environment as a whole) is that reacting that much slower. If you allow someone a 1 second window to Burst after the first guy, it means the Linkers would have a 1 second lag between their vocal announcement of the Burst and the actual activation of it.

Doesn't seem like that amount of time would have been reasonable to counter kendo attacks or dodge rampant cars.

the programm deletes itself once you have 0 points left and is not tracable and can't be installed on every machine, there is no way to proof it exists other than showing super-human reflexes
to be honest the book-throwing scene with Chii-chan wouldn't have convinced me at all.

I don't really get what you or Xel are going for here
It sounds like you guys think that movement is possible in Burst-link mode
the only thing burst-link allows you to do is to analyse the situation from different points of views.

the hospital scene pretty much shows what happens when 2 linkers burst at the same time.
the only advantage you can get from that is to challange someone before someone else does.

Agreed. I honestly don't know how the dictionary attack was supposed to convince her that they were using super-human abilities. He didn't even close his eyes. Anyone throwing like she does will telegraph something as heavy as a dictionary.

Unless Chiyuri's dictionary throwing is meant to be extremely powerful (which it certainly didn't look like it), Taku would be able to dodge with or without.

I'm not talking about proving the existence of the program so that you can talk about it to outsiders. I'm saying that if the user-base is as large as it supposedly needs to be in order to sustain itself, then there would at least be more widespread discussion.

For example, if Taku's kendo senpai spread the program with his entire kendo club and some of them lose all their points afterwards, nothing's stopping them from talking to each other about it after they're all back to "normal". Since increasing the userbase generates more points for users (particularly established ones who are higher levels), such a scenario should be happening more often. And if that was to happen, then you'd should have more widespread recognition of the program amongst all users and ex-users.

My quote was referring to Xel's comment about there being a 1-second lag during which someone else can Burst. Burst-linking accelerates your mind so you see things in slow motion. Effectively, the world is frozen in time around you for 16 minutes or something. That means, as soon as I Burst, everybody is unable to do anything while I take my time to look, think or start a challenge.

My original question was that if I Burst while a Linker is nearby, will they get to Burst as well somehow? Xel proposed that there could be a 1 second window during which another user could Burst after me and be in the same Accelerated World as me at the same time. That did not make sense to me because once I Burst, everyone else should be essentially frozen (in mind and body).

The only way for the 1-second window to work would be if there was a one second delay in Bursting. That is:

    -I yell "Burst Link".
-My burst link doesn't activate until 1 second after I yell.
-That gives a 1 second window for another Linker to hear my words and decide to say "Burst Link" before he freezes (when my Burst kicks in)
-My Burst kicks in 1 second after I said it. Everybody around me is frozen except for those fast enough to also Burst during that 1 second lag.
    ------------------

I did not think that there would be a 1 second delay between wanting to Burst, and actually Bursting, because by that time you would have already been struck by the bamboo sword, or by the car that you were trying to stop and analyse in the first place.

    That's the reason behind:

I agree. When he first suggested it, I thought what Taku was trying to do was to freeze the dictionary in mid air while it was open, read the page, let it land, then tell Chiyu about the contents of the page that the dictionary landed on because he "sped up his mind" as the dictionary flew past.

But there's no way to guarantee that the page that flew past you was the page it would have landed on, so that was moot.

Chiyu is also an athlete, so she was confident that her throws are not easy to dodge at such a short distance (and in reality, it really is very difficult especially while sitting down and with minimal movement.)

If a burst linker says burst link first, then logically the other won't be able to burst link. The only times we have seen multiple burst linkers in burst mode together are when they activated it at the same time.

About there supposedly being widespread discussion, the answer is probably as simple as information control by the 'parents.' All burst linkers have parents, meaning that there is always someone with more experience that knows their RL identity. If they maintain a code of secrecy (particularly the organizations within the game), then it could be sustained because revealing such information may have consequences in both the accel world and RL.

Aqua-something was actually willing to direct link to some fat kid in the middle of a restaurant just to keep their conversation as confidential as possible, which indicates how major a secret it is. I am not saying that there would not be rumours flying around about the game, but since no one would be proactively spreading the details, and no one would readily believe such a story anyway (cool story bro), it just keeps getting classified as an urban legend.

then you are right, there is no delay between them, as shown multiple times already.
and nope, you are not forced to burst if someone close to you bursts... the only time you are forced into burst-mode is whenever someones challanges

Oh.. so we just had a run-in with the programmer of Brain Burst?

edit2: And if your thoughts are transmitted automatically when you cable (or at least Haru doesn't have enough control over it..), shouldn't Chiyu have heard Haru when he dug around for the back door/memory files?

I don't think so, the word "elements" popped up so i assume there are 4 of these special Burst Linkers and that they'll eventually be relevant to the plot in some way.

The way she said it made it sound he just wan't being careful with his thoughts.

Makes you wonder why Harayuki bothers dodging when he can just kick his way through everything.

I like that Neuro Linkers can come in different classy designs. Kuroyuki's trumps them all.

And come to think of it.. we still didn't resolve her name from the cliffhanger last time!! >_>
