MangaStream No Longer Releasing Jump Series

Naruto, Bleach, One Piece, etc, have already been removed from their site. Only the series in their directory will be continued.

    February 11th, 2012

    Dear MangaStream supporter,

It's with a heavy heart that I make the following announcement. MangaStream will no longer be releasing the following series:

    - Naruto
    - Bleach
    - One Piece
    - Hunter x Hunter
    - Katekyo Hitman Reborn
    - Claymore
    - D.Gray-man

VIZ Media has demanded that we end our scanlation work for all of the above. This comes despite our best efforts to pursuade fans into supporting official distributors by being the only group to actively prevent an archive from forming on their website through the removal of chapters that are older than a couple weeks. They've succeeded in little more than invoking inconvenience to the community as their digital magazine missed the mark; it runs several issues behind and only features 3 of the above series. So long as their product continues to be slow, awkward and inferior to something a ragtag group of nobodies can churn out in a few hours - fans will continue to look to scanlation groups and aggregators for their weekly fix.

The aggressive and escalating nature of their threats have forced our hand into removing the content. MangaStream will no longer be posting full scanlations for any of the aforementioned series, we will instead focus our efforts onto the series we do that are not licensed by VIZ Media (you can assume everything currently on our directory will be continued).

Our final message to our loyal JUMP audience will be this:
Thank you for supporting us over the past two years and making Mangastream your home away from home. It was a pleasure sharing our time with fans who were just as passionate and dedicated as we were.

Although MangaStream will no longer be hosting any of the Jump series, if it's something our fanbase is interested in, we're considering leveraging our connections to bring you accurate spoiler summaries for the Jump chapters as early as possible. We know this isn't much, but hope it can whet your appetite until the dozens of aggregators release the official Jump chapters on Wednesday.
    VIZ Media Licensed Series Dropped

That sucks, but as always someone is bound to pick up the slack. I wonder who it'll be, probably the same team members who have been working on it until now.

Yeah hopefully they have a Photoshop patch that does most of the work for them, maybe they can just pass that one if they dont want to do it themselves. Fuck Viz.

That pretty much sums it up right there. Viz is awful and with the way they conduct themselves, I would rather not read the manga at all than support them.

Hopefully somebody picks this up without missing a beat. Screw Viz.

Why is it so hard for the licensors to do what Daum (The Breaker: New Waves, appears there) does in Korea? Put new chapters up, and then when the complied volumes are released, take off the corresponding chapters.

It should never take "professionals" more than a week to translate and typeset chapters. They'd be getting them officially, so they would barely even have to clean them. Price it reasonably, share revenues with authors.

If CrunchyRoll can do it with anime, a company can do it with manga/manwha translations.

Some say that CR does things the lazy way and just get the rights off the US distributors instead of the actual creators. They explain that this is why CR can only get the US rights for many of their shows.

Not sure how much truth there is in this.

Red Hawk received a DMCA notice.

    Dear Readers,

Some of you may have anticipated this development after the recent events at Mangastream, but we are sad to report that Red Hawk Scanlations has received a DMCA notice of copyright infringement from Shueisha with regard to the Bakuman and Beelzebub series. We have no desire to pick legal battles, so we have removed the series in question from our servers and will no longer be providing access to them via our site effective immediately.

However, aggregate sites like Batoto will undoubtedly continue to distribute material as they please, independent of our actions here. The act of editing manga itself is not illegal, and we have no control over what is distributed on other servers. Meanwhile the Red Hawk site will continue to serve as a hub for updates and discussion as we continue to pursue our passions without engaging in illegal distribution.

In short, these series are not dropped, but they will not be found on our servers.

    Sincerely,
    Red Hawk Scanlations

The entire community should just plot to boycott Viz content to show our disapproval. Maybe then they'd ease up (..they wouldnt *sigh*)

Muda Scantrad Drops Rosario + Vampire II

    Another drop...

In light of the recent events regarding Viz Media and Mangastream and Red Hawk, we have come to the conclusion that it is merely a matter of time before other groups that scanlate series, whom Viz owns licences of, start to be pursued as well. Muda being one of those potentially targeted.

As some of you lot may or may not know, Rosario+Vampire II is one of those series. Furthermore, scanlation is something we do in our free time out of devotion for the series we cherish and respect; a mere hobby you may say, but the reason why we take it so seriously, is only because we are equally passionate about doing it. However, you will have to agree that a hobby is not worth getting into trouble for, regardless of how passionate one might be about said activity.

With that being said, we are hereby ending our scanlations for our beloved series Rosario+Vampire II effective immediately.
    A Sad Announcement

Maybe if enough boards join together and write coherent letters stating our digust, then maybe free sites can reach an agreement. They already take forever to publish the regular jump series. Some manga series aren't as far back as their japanese counterparts but its not recent. If they were going to stifle the progress of distributing the product then atleast offer some jobs to those dedicated to producing the scans. I would pay for for a CURRENT issue of jump if they will also count our popularity votes towards manga content included. But they don't and volumes of my favorite manga are far behind thee current issues. So...yeah nah. Let's band together all of the boards......nvm. we can't even agree on manga let alone something that matters. How bout a pettion?

If after all these years they still can't get over their antiqued ideas of how business should be run in the Internet age, I don't think they would listen to anybody. They have already witnessed even amateurs can pull off quick releases, but still they can't do it themselves, despite being professionals, so you might as well write the petition directly to Santa Claus; I bet the chance of success would be better.

I think it has more to do with the Japanese disturbers than with Viz itself. in order for Viz to release an online copy, they need consent from Japan. SJ's company (whatever they're called) makes it's profit from the home market (japan). If they allow Viz to release a quality online version at a reasonable speed and price, they might lose some of the local crowed, assuming that some customers would rather read in a foreign language (english) and pay much less than buy the entire issue.

speaking of which, is there an online version of Shonen Jump in Japan?

sig made by Itachi-y2k5, thanks, dude!
Currently Watching: probably a show directed at 9 years old girls, lets be honest.

You know the important distinction between Batman and me? Batman is fictional. In real life, there isn't always an alternative.

Which brings up an even better point, you'd think Shueisha (I think thats the name of the company?) would have more than enough money to start an online operation for many languages, and collect subscription fees themselves from that. How hard is it to find translators in japan? Maybe one of us should email their office, does anyone on this board speak japanese?

You can access Jump digitally with their iphone app.

They're getting online, but they're making sure DRM goes with it.

It's pretty embarrassing that people are reacting like Viz protecting their property through cease and desist orders is a colossal affront to their customers. I know reading free scans is awesome and convenient but it's also illegal and hilariously bad for Viz's business model for these places to exist.
