Did anyone else notice how Araki's face lost like 1kg of fat by nightfall?

They just fail at making Araki´s weight change ... funny. It remains silly and unlogical.

Also, this anime has to come up with a more specal plot soon. As it is, the whole progression is too "run off the mill". There´s no element of surprise, no special character development, and the soccer duels seem to take too much time for what´s actually happening, too. And now they´re stretching this thin plot even further afar by having us watch Seven´s matches.

It could very well be just an introductory phase, setting up things for the future of the series, but:

    - how many episodes will this show even get? I assume season 1 is 26 episodes, but will there be a second season?
    and
    - we´re nearing the point at which any sort of introduction should come to an end. For this kind of show, something like ep 12 should mark the upper end of planning-episodes. From there, it needs to have found a clear path to follow for us, the audience.

    HorribleSubs - Episode 09

    ----------------

Nana is Soccer God.. and the US team sucked noodles. Unrealistic as it is (like a lot of things in this show really), it was fun enough to watch.

Unfortunately, this show continues to be rather shallow. It´s closer to Inazuma Eleven than most other soccer-anime. Let alone Giant Killing, which presented itself extremely believable.

Biggest turn off in this ep was Nana´s entrance. Not only did I find her "I´ll get those points back in no time!" very arrogant (which apparently none of her team mates thought), but also did her solo play-style lead the whole concept of soccer ad absurdum. Who needs a team anymore, when you can do it all by yourself, eh?

I hoped that with the creation of the new soccer team of Kakeru´s, we´d see some more natural progression in how everyone becomes stronger. But Nana is just too ridiculously overpowered.

She seems to be better than Kakeru and Suguru combined - as if the only thing keeping her back is her sex.. and she's perfectly fine with that.

Then again, was the main emphasis on:

    Suguru: passing
    Nana: dribbling
    Kakeru: receiving/scoring?

At this point, if Araki was to go in there, it'd be Eating.

I completely agree about Nana coming off as a one-woman team. I was honestly afraid that the enemy was going to foul her with dire physical consequence because if I was the opposing team faced against such odds, that's what I'd do. Might be bad press considering this is a "friendly" match though.

But hey, Nana is hot, so 99% of it is forgiven.

I often wish I was that hot.

Speaking of "holding her back": What is the reason she clings to her manager job again? I mean, is there any reason EXCEPT her being Kakteru´s fangirl? (ugh, I´m having flashbacks to the whole Uchiha Sasuke-Haruno Sakura-"thing"). If she puts up with the manager job only to be close to Kakeru, I think it wouldn´t be too wrong to call this series´ author misogynistic. At the very least, it´s a very old-fashioned plot device.

I'm not so sure about whether she's strictly a "fangirl". She wants to play soccer with Kakeru and Suguru - that much is certain. Being a manager allows them to be together in a gain spiritually as team even if she can't play physically. She still likes playing soccer and thus enjoyed playing in today's episode, but that's not what soccer's all about for her.

    That's my take-home message anyway.

    lol @ little-bitch.

I seriously thought the drama was coming back during the falling scene, and cringed for a second. In retrospect though, I'm not sure that it's necessarily a bad thing. Not much has happened lately to the extent that I'd welcome anything to drive the story forward at a faster pace.

I had hoped this match would accelerate Kakeru into being motivated further towards a goal, but he's keen on taking his time.

This better be a longer-running series (52eps?) or else we won't be getting much out of it at this rate.

    It's funny now the girls' teams are drawn. You're either a good-looking ace/captain, or a short-haird, likely-stocky-looking tomboy.

dunno if its just me, but subtitles of the 720p version were messed up. 480p working fine, though.

You must have the first 720p. All three versions had the subs from episode 4 originally and have since been updated.

It wasn't too bad an episode if they hadn't thrown in the waltz-like play right at the end. That put me off.

    Being fat trains your lungs...
    ...
    ...

    ...

Can't you just.. train AND be slim? >_>

I suppose given how unrealistically quickly Araki can shift his weight on/off, you could say that he "pads up" to increase his mass during training - then takes it off for his serious matches. That's.. as much sense as I can make from this situation.

The scene at line-up call with Nana was weird. She looked like she was all too happy to kick someone in the balls.

Ugh, this show makes it hard to find something mentioning worthy of praise.

My two main problems with this episode:

1.) Yeah, Iwaki-sensei is tooooootally strict, by basically sacrificing a whole match only to show Araki to make a change. Seriously speaking, you cannot point towards somebody´s faults in a softer way than having him find out by himself.

2.) The selection at the end was the most boring, insultingly obvious scene in anime history ever.

And yet I´ll continue watching, because I love soccer anime :/
