This series showed so much promise in the beginning, I felt. In fact, I second Bill's statement: I'm biased towards Inori, so I still have a lingering hope that things are always darkest before the dawn. I mean, random people being able to enter a supposed metaphysical space, even when it should be impossible, isn't anything new. If we're still making comparisons to Code Geass, didn't Lelouch and Suzaku and Nunally and Karen and who knows who all else enter that alternate world? It's been a very long time since I've seen the series now, so I'm probably a little off, but the basic idea is still the same. That, of course, doesn't excuse GC... I'm just trying to make a point that it shouldn't be surprising.

However, the convenient rules regarding Voids is where I think the episode fell apart. All of a sudden, "with his power", he can extract a Void while the person is still conscious, and subsequently give that person their Void to use? I was prepared for the "still conscious" bit, since we talked about it before, but how and the hell is someone who doesn't have the "power of the king" (or whatever it was called in the beginning) using it? And it can draw out other Voids as well? So let me get this straight... he's been forcing Shu to draw Voids for his own goals, when all he really had to do was have his own drawn out, and then he could have done all the work! Or so it would seem...

I won't even go into the whole "marriage ceremony"... that was just pointless. And the random case of Amnesia to explain everything. I said I still have a lingering hope for this series, but it's a very, very thin hope.

All that aside, this episode did feel like a final episode, slightly. I'm guessing the continuation will focus on Shu leading Undertaker, or Funeral Parlour, or whatever the fuck they want to be called. That would be the obvious conclusion since Gai's jacket miraculously made it out with Shu.

At least we have the music to look forward to still.

    Edit:

He couldn't do that before because Shu wasn't in New King Mode.

I knew Ayase's void would be something along the lines of legs.

Holy crap, this is like a completely new show. Shu looks more badass in that new school uniform than his previous lame one. The plot interests me again.

I was expecting some kindof Enclave, but legs work too, hah.

The new direction is definitely good. There's an obvious problem and the main characters have every reason to try to solve it.

Talking about voids.. what does Inori's character have to do with swords? That's perhaps the one void that doesn't make sense. (along with whatever the hell a fridge tells you about the owner).

That he is obsessed with checking the fridge everytime he comes near kitchen? AND that is his/her only worthwhile trait.

Shin Megami Tensei Devil Survivor style huh? Trapped in an area with no way of getting out while the timer counts down to destroy it. I like it.

This is a marked improvement over the recent episodes.

Ayase's Convenient Plot Device Void is the first one to make truly sense with the owner's personality since Hare's. Hare is a healing-type of girl, so she gets healing bandages. Ayase is someone who always dreams of being free and independent, so she gets legs that let her go anywhere.

I like that they gave Ayase a lot of character development, but still have left us with secrets. Shu finally got to see her attempt to get back into her chair, and her fears were revealed, but they still haven't divulged what accident took her legs. Maybe it isn't important, maybe it is. I like that we don't get to know all her secrets even as Shu pulled her Void.

The good news is that now Segai appears to be taking a more active antagonistic role, but still using his sideways barbs. How that other guy is still alive is a mystery for now, but Segai is still the one of the best written villains in a long time. You're never quite sure if he is helping Shu as much as he toys with him. That attack allowed Shu to gain a lot of leadership respect among his Undertaker and Friends group, as well as putting him in a leadership position among the school populace, who he will now be charged with protecting. Shu may be recruiting Daryl soon, both for his Endlave skills and his super-powerful Void. Tsugumi is probably making the headway there (as she was wonderfully throughout the episode). Maybe if he joins Shu's Undertakers, Daryl will finally find a group that doesn't use him as a disposable asset, because that's obvious what Segai is doing with him too.

Did I spy a troubled/pained looking Haruka stuffed into (and I do mean stuffed into  ) an Endlave control suit in the OP during the villains montage? (2:46-7 on Commie) We know she's a lot more than a simple scientist, and is rather deeply involved in this whole thing. Perhaps the evil dude is going to put her into one as punishment for supporting Shu's Faction. They've lost Daryl for now anyway. This could be very interesting.

Not that I mind Daryl taking on a role that is more aligned with Shu's agendas, but his infiltration mission is pretty inconsistent with his previous behaviour. He wouldn't even shake anybody's hand because they would contaminate him.. but now he's getting into commoners' clothes and doing manual labour...

Tsugumi was great this episode. As much as we disliked Shu's behaviour before, watching everyone bash him was equally annoying to watch so I'm glad we'll see less of that from now on too.

I'm still doubting whether Segai will oppose Shu in a truly threatenning manner. We've still got the other King-Mode eyebrow fellow to deal with. Even his actions so far haven't been 100% antagonistic..

I actually WANT to watch Guilty Crown every week now. It's a good feeling. And so is the end where you got the feeling of satisfaction from having the situation "resolved", only to be introduced with a new one with a huge potential to go wrong.

I guess Shu doesn't have a void then if the scouter errors out.

I feel like I should punish those of you who don't watch the OP/EDs, but Tsugumi's too cute to pass up, so here. Be thankful, alright!

I like how this is progressing but the void scouter is retarded, they all have different abilities that should be useful within certain situations so how do you rank them based on "power"?

How useful they are given all possible situations? I don't like it, but that is how they are doing it probably.

Boobs' void heals while Inori's void destroys and femgai's void protects, how in the fuck do you quantify which one will be more useful? And then there's the one's which are pretty much situational voids. Like i said, retarded.

Heh. Tsugumi's is in the form of a magical girl wand. Figures.

Where did that stuff about a tattoo come from? I didn't see one on Ayase's back obviously, nor do I think Inori has one.

Speaking of Inori, it's a good question whether she killed those three or merely hurt them badly. I wonder if Mana is starting to reassert herself in the "placeholder" body now that her physical body is destroyed. Or whatever force turned her psychotic as the crystals started growing near her ears and taking her personality over. Same issue either way. Lying to Shu about it isn't a good sign.

    Overall utility.

Inori's void is "OVER" because not only does it have the ability to slice through anything, it also levels up Shu's general abilities (flying, superjumps, jumps off of thin air via a 'magical seal').

Hare's void is in the high 1800s (out of a presumed 2000) because not only does it heal biological wounds, as we saw with the humvee race to the tower, it can also heal destroyed materials. It can probably be used as a lasso too or something dumb like that. Hopefully it isn't ridiculous like reversing time in a localized area or something

Yahiro's is probably pretty high because it is the opposite of Hare's. It can kill things. Vorpal blade style. Maybe even concepts?

Same for Souta's as it will open anything and remove barriers. Like the certain barrier surrounding the area.

Ayase's is less useful because it only allows unrestrained movement, not offense, so she's below that. Tsugumi's is a "low" 1400 because it doesn't have much use outside of a distraction or illusion.
