Man, I'm like, super looking forward to a new opening next week too.

but so are Naruto and Bleach which honestly aren't any more edgy or dark then one piece.

I would argue that Naruto has a much higher mortality rate than One Piece does. I mean, it took half the series for Oda to kill off just two characters. Even with Pain resurrecting a bunch of people, people still die all the time in Naruto.

Whereas Bleach has a sky high villain mortality rate, but a good guy mortality rate of zero.
