    Blood-C

Description: Ukishima Shrine is located in an old, picturesque lakeside town. Shrine maiden Kisaragi Saya lives there along with her father, Tadayoshi. By day, she lives the life of a normal high school student at Sanbara Academy. By night, she hunts the Old Ones. Possessing supernatural physical prowess, the Old Ones prey on humans, and only Saya has the ability to defeat them. (Source: AniDB)

Note: You do NOT need to have seen the original movie or the Blood+ series to watch this. Blood-C is not directly related. This is a re-imagining of the Blood franchise by CLAMP.

    Genres: Action, Contemporary Fantasy, Vampires

    [Doki] Blood-C - 01 (720p)
    [Underwater] Blood-C - 01 (720p)

    -------------------------

Being a big fan of CLAMP's designs (Code Geass characters, xxxHolic, Tsubasa Chronicle, Card Captor Sakura, etc.) and the original Blood franchise (not so much Blood+ though...) I was looking forward to this re-imagining. Blood has some good foundations behind it, and CLAMP has been really good at producing the kind of series this fits well with. xxxHolic is particular, which designs this seem to match the most.

So Saya becoming a meganekko, growing giant fluffy pigtails and having a fluttery skirt = mega-win for me.

As for the episode itself, I can't say I was surprised at all to see Saya singing a song on her way to school given that she's voiced by Mizuki Nana (Fate from Nanoha, Sylvette from Letter Bee, Hinata from Naruto). What did surprise me was how long that scene went on. As much as I like her singing (and she indeed sings the ED), I'm not sure if I want to see that kind of thing throughout the series unless they're going to make it a major part of the plot.

The two twins being voiced by the same actress is always a nice touch. That was another plus for me.

Not too much else happened in the first episode. It was very much introductory. Good fight animation, fun to watch, decent amount of humor, and shaping up to be very CLAMP (cafe for no apparent reason, amusingly impractical uniforms, ridiculous hair, twins for no apparent reason, etc.). I want more, as soon as possible.

But the OP...not the song so much, but the animation. It oozes sexiness.

Doki is good but quite slow. Underwater is fast but sometimes meh.

Going to download later. I used to be a CLAMP dork sometime ago =P. Not so much lately though.

I dropped this after five minutes. Because Saya in this is a dojikko meganekko unable to walk on plain floor for three meters without tripping. Ryll's mega-win was mega-lose for me.

Just watched it....I know it's not related to the Blood+ movie and series but still...I kept on thinking how they just completely ruined it in my eyes. Perhaps next episode will change something but I doubt it. Looks like it's just a highschool supernatural show right now.

That's funny, because I thought the same thing in regards to Blood+ when compared to the original movie. Blood+ completely ruined Blood: The Last Vampire for me. I can accept this change because it isn't supposed to be related except through the basic concept.

Wow, for a clamp series, this is pretty good. Especially in terms of the animation. I guess maybe its because I havent seen their work in a long time (I think XXXholic) or maybe its because they really wanted to step up their game (or both?). I wasnt planning on watching this, but I think I'll pick it up and see where it goes. Also, Nana playing a female Vampire? Seen it before, but I'm all for it.

Side note: Ive seen Blood TLV but not Blood+.

edit: I do find it a bit amusing that the school uniform just happens to be those colors.

I didn't like it. And it had nothing to do with previous Blood series (haven't watched them). It just didn't click... and the only characters I liked are the twins. Not going to follow despite CLAMP.

It fell short of my expectations, I'll say that.

Saya's bush isn't really to my liking. Something sleeker like in the picture of the intro-post would have been nice. Also wasn't a fan of her being a complete ditz, yet performing superhuman feats in combat. Had she transformed between her two modes like another certain vampire girl I wouldn't have minded so much...

I like CLAMP designs though, so I'll stay on this for a little while longer. I just watched the Blood movie right before this, and can't help but feel the monster here was just... so un-intimidating.

This show is very CLAMPish, and it is not working in its favour, for me at least.

The action is great though. If they cut out the fight scenes, and replaced it with generic mahou shoujo fights, I would have dropped this in an instant.

Her singing makes me want to rip her throat out, or at least makes me hope one of those things do.

Finally got around to this one, the fight scenes were cool but the dojiko thing is hard to swallow considering she's supposedly the same person when she's tripping over air as she is when playing basketball like she belongs in the NBA or fighting evil statues. CLAMPiness is CLAMPy but that's nothing new. If it develops a story I might stick around but if it starts getting too much into the slice of life of her balancing school and monster hunter I suspect I'll drop. The twins were adorable though, if there is slice of lifeing to be done they might make an ep worthwhile.

This show is kinda weird. I think it would work way better if they split up the slice-of-life(which is decent enough - thanks to the godlike twins, they are the reason i won't drop this show) and the action part into two different shows... unless it will have a decent plot later on.

This would be easily fixed if only they have Saya transform, but it doesn't happen.

    Underwater - Episode 03

    -----------------------------------------

Wait, what? Saya tailed the guy... and just watched him get ripped to shreds? I can't get that man, it totally goes against her idea of protecting people. I never would have even though of her to be the let-someone-be-the-bait type. Then there's the randomness of having the baker come back after being away for all this time only to be seen, then consumed. ???

I think the cool guy and the dog are the same person, but the preview seems to go against that idea.

Blood-C is kind of crappy, but the fights alone have been keeping my attention. Thankfully, it is starting to build together. There's hints here and there about how much more is going on than we're being told. Things such as:

    - The Covenant. We don't know much about it at this point, but now it has been mentioned twice, and her father seems to know at least what it is, though he certainly isn't telling Saya yet.
    - The Elder Bairns suggesting that Saya is being equally used (by who goes unmentioned). This is sort of implying that she isn't really that dissimilar to them. Do they mean that she too is a hunter (like they see themselves), or that she is also a man-eater but doesn't know it. The latter depends on whether or not Saya is a vampire, or that she is Saya from The Last Vampire...which brings me to the next point.
    - The flashbacks in episode 4. They clearly showed the climatic scene in Blood: The Last Vampire.
    - Saya is given "special" coffee made just for her. Is it "coffee," substituting for blood, or is it something to keep her brainwashed and controlled?
    - The town itself is really weird. Nobody lives in it. Saya never encounters a single person through her entire route, despite passing a number of houses. The twins mentioned how empty the town is too.
    - Tokizane versus Itsuki. There is a strange conflict between these two (not untypical of CLAMP shows though...). Tokizane seems detached, yet he is rather unusually concerned about Saya's wellbeing. Itsuki on the other hand, comes off very concerned about what Saya is doing. He's always got his eye on her, but it doesn't seem to be love or concern or attraction. It's something else. It feels...off.

It's enough to keep me interested, but it isn't a series that I feel like watching as soon as it comes out. It's starting to get there though.

The scene with the narration on Hate and Trust states (or at least implies) that Saya hated humans, and is not brainwashed into protecting them. I wonder how all that will develop.

    Peace.
