Yeah i thought it would have been a good series after watching the first ep or two, but having watched up to ep12 all i can say is "meh". I also thought Kinji's 'Histeria Mode' was gonna be better than it was, seemed cool in the first ep, then it got pretty dumb imo.

I just watched Coalgirls' BD release. Before I talk about the anime, I really have to complain about the lack of CG's QC. Almost every single episode had a typo or bad sentence structure. I know their track record isn't that strong, with other titles I clearly remember seeing had errors, but this release really takes the cake. If they weren't one of the only options for (decent) quality BD releases, I wouldn't hesitate to drop them. Then again, the release was labeled "Coalgirls-Chihiro"... so maybe the fault lies elsewhere.

That being said, I actually enjoyed this anime. The story was almost non-existent, the characters were ridiculous, and the historical tie-ins make absolutely no sense... but I guess I'm not a cynic, because it didn't bother me. While everyone else was nitpicking about why the show was terrible, I found relief in knowing that, for once, the male protagonist wasn't always useless. Even more so, he wasn't a fucking coward. Activating "Hysteria mode" may have been... unconventional, but at least he wasn't afraid to use it in dire circumstances (even if there were a couple times where activating it sooner would have helped tremendously). I do agree that the initial attraction to the ability was the complete change of personality (the arrogant tone), and that seemed to have been lost over the course of a few episodes. But again, I'm trying not to nitpick at all the "terrible" things.

Aria was, for all intents and purposes, just another Rie Kugimiya loli-tsundere doll. Between Shana, Louise, and Taiga, Aria wasn't anything worth mentioning. In fact, I felt her tsundere personality was a little more dere than tsun, most of the time. Not that that's necessarily a bad thing. Regardless though, I have a soft spot for Rie, even if I want to stab her (characters) sometimes. I was also unaware she was the seiyuu going in, so that actually made my viewing experience better.

There's not much else to say about the other characters. They were interesting, but forgettable. Eye candy, if you will. I wasn't expecting the twist with Riko, nor was I expecting the power that Shirayuki had. Everything else though was pretty predictable. The trap with the plane, the Shirayuki disguise, the school professor being connected to the criminal organization. Pretty regular stuff.

My biggest gripe with the series, and my reason for posting this here, even though this thread has long since been dead, is that so much was left unexplained, and even the series itself just seemed to stop, and it really frustrates me. First of all, we got no information on what IU is, or why (and how) Riko and Jeanne were able to "plea bargain" into the school. There was no more mention of Kinji's brother, and whether or not he was truly dead. No information about "Hysteria mode", other than it's a genetic trait that apparently no one knows about except Riko. We have no idea who the hell Kana is, or why it's a touchy subject for Kinji. And last but not least, the last episode ends with the characters being sucked into a dream world apparently, and are forced to live eternally in the village (I'm assuming, since, again, there is no explanation). Even though I ignored all the terrible things everyone stated about this anime, the ending just completely and utterly baffles me.

It was a good run up until the end. If a season 2 is ever confirmed, maybe my frustrations will be alleviated. I wouldn't really recommend this series to anyone, but I don't regret watching it.

It's dangerous to go alone. Take Nep.

Except for me, the series "stopped" around episode 1-3. It introduced a premise, but then failed to develop on it for individuality and provided some lackluster material to fill its 13ep run.

I think I finished this series because of Rika.

Anyone else watching season 2? Also am I the only one who misses Kinji being a main part of the show? Season one felt like it was more about Kinji than it was about Aria. :/

This isn't a second season but a spin-off, I believe. Kinji is the protagonist of the light novels.

Ohh ok, that would explain it then. So not a real sequel/second season then.

I was really disappointed because I wanted to watch the adaptation of the novels I read. They aren't great but still far better than this knock off Yuru Yuri.

I'm still going to watch since I am 3 episodes and Kinji made me laugh in in the 2 minutes of screen time he had. :/
