Even if you're not interested you'd help me out if you got it with no intention of using it and unninstalled it afterwards. Each referral gives me an extra and very useful 250Mb since this beelzebub tank I've been been working on is occupying most of my free 2Gb leaving me with no room to work on other series

I have, and if you have not, stay tuned. I am looking to max out my referral credit for extra space in the online storage solution. When you sign up we BOTH get 256MB of extra free space on Dropbox. If you want to sign up, then the link is this: My Dropbox Referral Link. Be sure to use that link for us both to get the credit.

For us to get the credit, all you need to do is sign up with that link, install Dropbox, and link your account to the program. If you don't really need it, you can of course uninstall it, no harm, no foul. Even if you don't need it, it would still be awesome if you have a moment to help out. The main reason I am looking at doing this is to enable me to store and sync XCode and Visual Studio files between my school PC and home PC. Read below for what Dropbox is and what it can do for you.

    What is Dropbox?

Dropbox is an online file syncing and backup solution. It has clients for Mac, Linux, Windows and many Mobile phone platforms! It creates a folder on your computer with which you can save and sync files. When you put a file in that folder it gets uploaded to the dropbox servers securely and if you have multiple PCs linked to it, then they will receive that file also. You can also access all those file from a web browser at their website. Say you write a paper for school and save it in that folder as a habit. Suddenly you forget it or lose it on your way to class. You can then on any computer get it from the website and print it. Crisis averted.

What do I get out of it?

For using my Referral Link we both get an extra 256MB of free space! And of course you can then invite others and for every one of them that sign up and install the program, you an they get 256MB more!

Can I use Dropbox to share with others?

Yes! Dropbox has a public folder that allows you to share that file with others. When you put a file in your Dropbox's public folder you can give friends a link where they can download that file for free!

    Is it secure?

Simply, YES. It is secured in transit with SSL encryption and stores on their servers with AES-256 encryption and cannot be accessed without your username/password combo.

    Do I really need it?

Maybe not. At first I really didn't use it, until I realized what all I could do with it. The file sync for notes written on my laptop to immediately be on my home computer is amazing. I never have to find my laptop or charge it at home to get to my notes. and being able to work on a single file from multiple computers without ever having to transfer it and worry about different versions being on each machine is very nice. Even if you don't really need it, I would still appreciate it if you installed through my referral link and you can of course, uninstall after you have setup the account. That way I still benefit from a small portion of your time.

    Ready to sign up?

Just use this link here: My Referral Link. Sign up for an account using that form, install the program, and link it to the account you just made. That's it! Be sure to use that link because it benefits us both.

If you need anything else, feel free to PM me on here, I am also on irc.rizon.net/#gotwoot, and irc.gotwoot.net/#gotwoot if you enjoy using IRC. Otherwise, my AIM is TheCBebop, and my email CBebop@cbebop.net.

    Thanks!

tl;dr Sign up for dropbox and install the program with this link to help me out: LINK

For just documents, google-docs does the job fine for me.. but if your project involves modifying other types of files unsupported by google, then this thing may be what you need.

PS: didn't Ark make a dropbox thread like a year ago?

I got a link to drop box earlier this week, so after seeing this post, I decided it was probably an indication that the site is legit and useful.

even if it's not, I still got some notes for class from it.

I never got around to doing anything about it (mainly because I have no need to), but yeah, I know.

I think the idea with drop box was that you made a folder in your computer where you simply drag/drop stuff into it, and it actively syncs with the server, and any other "synced folders" on other authorised computers, as well as the more regular upload-and-share type.

Bandwidth kills this shit in Australia though. Hopefully I'll find more use for it with the new national broadband network (whenever that gets around).
