Wow, the Holy Shit Quotient of this episode was off the fucking scale.
For a minute, I thought Luffy was gonna go fucking Super Saiyan, but he Blue Screened instead.
Then, one of the most hellacious fucking beatdowns EVER.
But Akainu burned the 'stache! I hope he fucking drowned.
And finally, I guess Blackbeard was just gathering crewmates from Floor 6...not as cool as I was hoping, but I guess he did need more crew if he was gonna have as many as Luffy by the end of the series. All of them except Pizaro are extra-fucking goofy looking though.
It's episodes like this that allow shounen series to last for 480+ eps. Bra-vo, Oda. *claps hands
I'm not sure since i haven't watched it yet but i'm assuming from ender's post that the anime censored the fight, Whitebeard was supposed to literally lose almost half of his face
it was pretty awesome episode ughhh but there was one change from the manga I was pretty annoyed about. I guess it was ultimately decided to be too grisly. But in the original manga Akainu took away more then just a segment of whitebeard's stache look at the top left panel.

On the other hand, he apparently didn't get a belly full of magma in the manga, so it kind of evens out.
I will not lie, my body was literally trembling from the sheer magnitude of Whitebeards awesomeness, god damn this was awesome!

This was also a perfect example of padding an episode done right. After reading the manga, the entire first half of this episode took up like 4 pages in the manga. And the first half of this episode was epic. They stretched it out the perfect amount.
I have to admit that him being burned in the torso doesn't have nearly the same impact as his face being blown off. I am sorely disappointed by that ARBITRARY change. Ace just dropped in a comparably bloody manner the episode before this, so I don't see the reasoning.
The rest of the episode though was awesome. Their little fight was amazingly done, especially the few seconds of hand-to-hand fighting.
The music when Whitebeard punched Akianu and broke Marine HQ was the same as when Luffy used Jet Gatling back at Enies Lobby. That was well done.
Honestly, I'm not sure why they changed it either, because, while what Akainu did in the manga was probably more graphic, what he did in the anime was honestly more brutal.
I mean, it's not like he just got punched in the stomach with a burning fist(list what happened to his chest earlier).
No, they showed Akainu's molten fist punching INTO Whitebeard's stomach, and then you saw Whitebeard's stomach glow and bulge outwards. Finally, after withdrawing his fist, fire continues to pour out of the hole in Whitebeard's stomach.
No, Akainu didn't just punch him, he FILLED HIS INSIDES WITH MAGMA!
Again, maybe it's cause I watched the anime first, but that seemed way more horrifying than just having part of your face burned off. I mean, I've seen Two-face before. I've never seen magma guts before.
Big deliverance in having you face burned and having part of your face, brain and skull MISSING and completely destroyed ... so i don't think it was more brutal, but i don't understand the change tho it didn't bother me that much
it was a good episode overall even if some parts were stretched and Akainu just stood there while WB was holding him / throwing him in the air and falling towards the punch like he couldn't do anything about it
I was pretty surprised that Akainu got up again after Whitebeard appeared behind him and completely smashed his face into the ground, it seriously looked like Akainu was done for by that one punch.

When Ace dropped to the ground and blood splattered around his face and chest, I actually jerked a little because I was surprised.
The thing with pouring magma into Whitebeard is that we've already seen him do that in this war. He did the exact same thing to him during their first encounter, and it was awesome and brutal when he did it then, but what would have been awesome for this encounter was what should have happened, Whitebeard's face and brains being charred off.
Oh well, it's kind of nitpicky, but it really gave this struggle that extra oomph!
Again though, awesome episode regardless.
I don`t know, i thought the lava punch to the stomach was better :O
You cannot hope to build a better world without improving the individuals. To that end each of us must work for his own improvement, and at the same time share a general responsibility for all humanity, our particular duty being to aid those to whom we think we can be most useful. -Marie Curie
Yeah, the first time he did it it just looked like Akainu punched him in the chest while his fist was burning and burned a hole.
That's not really the same thing as pumping lava INTO his body.
It's like the difference between been stabbed with a knife, and being stabbed with a knife coated with poison. Only in this case the poison is LAVA.
