Wait, scratch that....the default scheme is blue and even uglier. Im appreciating the red after seeing it.

I go offline for one week and everything changes?
the width frightens me. I'm used to small spaces. like the hole I want to crawl into.
sig made by Itachi-y2k5, thanks, dude!
Currently Watching: probably a show directed at 9 years old girls, lets be honest.
You know the important distinction between Batman and me? Batman is fictional. In real life, there isn't always an alternative.
“For God will not permit that we shall know what is to come... those who by some sorcery or by some dream might come to pierce the veil that lies so darkly over all that is before them may serve by just that vision to cause that God should wrench the world from its heading and set it upon another course altogether and then where stands the sorcerer? Where the dreamer and his dream?”
The thread index is hideous but it looks ok in thread viewing. Better than the very first stylesheet when I started posting here but kind of a sidegrade from the previous one. I assume it was primarily a backend update.
yeah, vbulletin 3.x -> vbulletin 4.x. Completely different templating engine, so everything had to be re-implemented. I wanted to kind of keep the gist of the old gotwoot-v3 color scheme, but set the layout a bit wider, make banners a bit easier to work with, and go to a more maintainable set of templates. I'm no designer and wasn't really going for a complete re-imagining of the site, so this is where we ended up.
If you've got specific ideas that would make things look better, I'm all ears (... err... eyes, I guess).
It's the thread index icons next to the threads, really. Also, the white text on red background makes the page numbers pop way more than they should. I'm not exactly sure what you should do to correct either of these, and inside threads it looks fine, so not really a big deal.
I agree. The icons are way too eye-catching, and obscure you from seeing each thread's topic when browsing the index.
I had an idea to make some custom icons in for the subforums when viewed from the main forum index, but that'll take some time while I learn photoshop. I've also decided to hold off that until we've determined if we're going to keep the icon size and all as they are now, or shrink them etc. We can't have custom icons for each individual thread to help finding topics easier after all. It'll only really work for the subforums since they're always displayed and don't change.
If it's not Isuzu-chan Mii~
So the problem with the pagination stuff is that it's a bit tangled with other things. The same variable that controls the color of the text on the pagination control controls the text of the dropdown menu next to it (and I think the title text on the "notifications" dropdown on the top controlbar). But it's an entirely different variable that controls the background of that menu (which also sets other colors) versus the pagination stuff.
I'm still trying to figure out a decent way to untangle that. Maybe just disable pagination on the forum view entirely, since looking at "1, 2, 3, 139" for the "post your picture" thread isn't super-useful, and "go to first unread" is a lot more useful. I agree that that control in particular is pretty ugly. Maybe replacing it with just a "last page" button would be better. Pagination positioning there also stomps on the subscription notification and a couple other things if you go to the "new posts" interface (which gives a narrower thread column), so ... there's definitely a few style issues we need to work through with that. For now consider the pagination as it appears to be a stopgap until we can figure out something better.
Kraco is currently working on icon color schemes and such, so direct feedback on those to him. I'm comfortable saying that tuning that is still a work in progress.
I think we're not going to go for smaller icons because it'd be hard to present the other information about the thread that's there. I mean, we could shrink the font on the "started by" or lose that bit entirely and just have the thread title and the other info columns. Maybe that'll be something for us to experiment with in a child theme of the main gotwoot-v4 theme or something at some later point.
The page colors aren't nearly as bad as the icon thing.
KitKat mentioned some days ago she would work on creating new thread icons. What I did was recolouring and reshuffling them to suit the red Gotwoot traditions. If KitKat gives up, I might try to come up with something on my own. It seems like the icons are so big (compared to the old forum ones you hardly noticed) they catch attention also in the wrong ways.
