No chapter next week.
Waste of a chapter, like 11 pages explaining underwater currents and why the water is cold. The rest was fun though.
That was an unusually boring chapter, why on earth would we be interested om how fake sea currents work?
And a break next week, total lameness
4 out of 17 pages were about currents. Boohoo. Personally, I was actually curious about how sailing underwater worked, considering that the ships aren't exactly built to maneuver across depths in the ocean. I like Oda's explanation. I also find Oda's artwork to be incredible when he draws up these fantastical environments to explore. Almost pulls you in to the moment.
Caribou getting stuck with the strawhats is hilarious. Guess he's gonna become comic relief for a bit afterall. Personally, I don't think a fight right now would be an appropriate way to show off the characters' new abilities anyway... way too cramped.

Btw, from Sanji's kick we can now safely assume Caribou's not a Logia
And no he did not use Haki on that kick, it was comic relief, you don't use haki on comic relief.
I dunno, I thought about that....
Caribou said he can get out of the ropes any time, which would make sense as a logia.
He doesn't want to reveal his abilities yet to the crew. I wonder if its possible to suppress the passive logia defense? Maybe comic-relief works similarly to Haki, like how Smoker got blasted through the wall when Luffy rocketed into the restaurant in Alabasta.
Also, the Krakken is so going to be seen escorting the Thousand Sunny into Fishman Island.

I did like how Chopper stole Brook's joke.
and I don't think that guy is logia.
Logia usually dematerialize to allow stuff to phase through them, something happening to the bullet\cannon ball screams paramicia to me. besides, if he was a logia, he'd probably fluent it as a point of strength.
sig made by Itachi-y2k5, thanks, dude!
Currently Watching: probably a show directed at 9 years old girls, lets be honest.
You know the important distinction between Batman and me? Batman is fictional. In real life, there isn't always an alternative.
I dont think 4 pages on explaining sea currents is annoying. And knowing Oda, it will become very relevant either politically or strategically later on in the story.
And holy fucking shit I came when Oda introduced the Kraken.
I lol'd when I saw Chopper foaming from the mouth in the last page.
A KrakkeeeennnN!!!!!!
Oda, marry me. So effing epic; I can't wait to see how Oda will play out this arc. =D
Of course not, this is Oda... he can shit in your plate and you would eat it.
The problem here more than anything was that it blocked what was being up to that point a fairly exciting chapter.
So it's not that Oda took the time to explain it, but that it was explained in a fairly shitty moment, he should've explained it in the chapter he wasted explaining about the coating of the ship... which was during a down time, so it's fine.
While only 4 pages were about explaining the currents, there were about 7 pages that dealt with actual undersea navigation, which includes the double page with the waterfall... which was nice, but I've had enough of current talk by that point.
Anyways, nice to see a kraken in there and I would like to see how they actually go about riding this waterfall.
with them mentioning about how things could stay on the current for thousands of years i think it was possibly foreshadowing a series of content developed on such an idea... perhaps in the anime to allow them to have a massive filler gap? in terms of TIME the anime is getting very close to the manga and this could just give them more chance to have oda inspired fillers
Are any of the boats that the kraken destroyed the one with the other pirates?
I thought the kraken was a giant turtle initially.
Heaven forbid we actually get some development before the next arc.
Which would be....? I figured it was pretty obvious that there wouldn't be any sort of serious battle taking place at least until the strawhats reached fishman island. Of course I expected a little more than Caribou making an idiot out of himself, but at least Oda set him up to potentially be a lot more exciting than something otherwise painfully cliche. I don't expect the next chapter to be heart-poundingly epic either. The problem here more than anything was that it blocked what was being up to that point a fairly exciting chapter.
Luffy will probably one-shot the krakken and freak everyone out with how much stronger he's gotten, then stroll into town with a big-ass krakken. Also, I expect the krakken is going to serve, moreso than anything else, as its role to allow the strawhats to navigate the deep waters faster and circumvent the risk of being stranded for 10000 years in a slow current.

I can't see him "one shotting" a giant octopus under water. He's still weak to water, as far as we know.
I'm guessing he's just going to use the King's Disposition.
"After all, I am strangely colored."
I am pretty certain Luffy is going to do exactly what he said and 'tame' the Kraken. He DID, after all, tame those other animals on the island during his 2 years of training. And he is probably going to use King's Disposition to do it.
It would be interesting for the strawhats to have a pet Kraken. Maybe they can use it in the future to fight Sanjuan Wolf of the Blackbeard pirates.
