Super Robot Wars Original Generation: The Inspector

Based on the Gameboy Advance game Super Robot Wars Original Generation 2

Six months after the conclusion of the L5 Campaign and the DC War, the crews of the PT carriers, Hagane and Hiryuu Custom have gone their separate ways. They are not far apart for long, however, as the remnants of the DC soon begin to push against the Federation Forces with newly acquired resources. A mysterious organization, the Shadow Mirror, has begun to arm them with weapons and robots that should not exist. Compounding matters, inter-dimensional entities known as Einsts begin to appear around the World and seem to share a psychic connection with ATX pilots, Kyosuke Nanbu and Excellen Browning. Even worse, aliens calling themselves, The Inspectors, have arrived from outer space with plans to retake the White Star and finish the job the Aerogators could not. As this new, four sided war begins, Lamia Loveless, a Shadow Mirror operative sent to spy on the Federation Forces must choose between her orders and her new found friends among the Hagane and Hiryuu crews.

It's Bullet...not Brit. Looks good and all but...I am already getting a bit annoyed by Excellen's voice.

I've never played the SRW games, but uh should I be this confused? XD

Plot wise, everything that you need to know about OG1 got summed up in Midcrid's speech. OG1 wasn't very plot heavy.

The intro part doesn't really get explained till later, even in the games, so you are supposed to be a bit confused by that part.

If you never played the games, the main thing you suffer in, is not knowing who the hell all the characters are.

As long as it has something that goes clank clank clank and blows up shit, I'll definitely watch it

The best part of this episode is definitely the prologue. Beowulf going nuts and killing his allies (particularly the SRX team) was just brutal. Shadow Mirror Ryuusei screaming with disbelief before getting killed just made it "better".

Axel going againts Beowolf was awesome! 'nuff said.

The Thrudgelmir making an early appearance was a nice bonus.

You'll probably get used to it. At least I did.

OG 1 and 2 for the GBA are available in english. I suggest you play those if you want to understand the the story better. Watching Divine Wars is another alternative but be warned, it has horribad pacing, CGI and a slightly confusing ending because of the appearance of certain Alpha character.

Crunchyroll it might be but I did play the OG games for the GBA. And I am pretty sure it was Bullet. Hell...in the OVA it was also Bullet.

What he meant was Crunchyroll isn't exactly known for it's stellar sub quality.

I'll keep watching because the fights are pure eyecandy (at least the prologue was), but I am utterly confused - particularly how they mention Aliens but we don't see any yet.

    If it's not Isuzu-chan Mii~

This is how it's supposed to be - a story with a very confusing start. Every thing will be sorted out and make sense near the end.

It's very late and some of you may have watched it already but I'll still post the torrents for formality.

    ----------------Episode thoughts (spoilerish)----------------

In episode two, the two Chokijins got a very early introduction which kinda changed the flow of the story. I really welcome this kind of approach as it gives some excitement to the people who had already played the game rather than waiting for something that they know will happen. Seeing Koohki (the tiger who smirks a lot) and Ryuohki (the dragon) fighting separated was really nice. They were only seen in this form in the Alpha games under the control of Dr. Hell (Mazinger Z) and were eventually freed by the heroes.

The reaction faces were really amusing. Although Excellen showed a lot of those, Lee's wat face tops them all. Lamia's monotonic hohoho was just as amusing.

Angelg's boobs are just... Damn, I don't know how to describe those things. When Lamia was getting out of the cockpit, I though the hatch was located in the crotch because the boobs looked like thighs. :/

If you don't want to play the games or watch Divine Wars. Maybe you guys could just read this summary of SRW OG 1, complete with links to character and mecha images, soundtracks and the character's respective voice actors.

Aliens were fought at the "L5 Campaign", which was the very last part of SRW OG1. So for now, until the story for OG2 gets into gear, there aren't any more aliens (yet).

I feel as if they are pretty much trying to get through the very early parts of OG2 as fast as they can, without losing TOO much. OG2 after all started fairly slow. I think they just want to get to the NDC War and the Inspectors faster. Kinda weird how they had the Chokujin show up that early, when its still just the ATX team lol

Yep, they are combining events, probably to make the story move faster. Was a pretty good episode IMO, I'm just sad there was no Irm and his Gungrust.

I hope we get to some superpowered mechs soon. Those parts were a lot more interesting than commonplace mechs, or the "regular" ATX builds.

    If it's not Isuzu-chan Mii~

Assuming that this show follows the plot of OG2 semi-closely, and assuming Irm doesn't show up (since he is technically supposed to already be there but isn't), we won't see any Super Robot types for at least several episodes. I guess Lamia's Angelg counts as a Super Robot, but it hasn't really had it do anything so far.

But then again, they did have the Thrudgelmir in epsiode 1 for some reason, and the Chokujin mechs killing stuff in episode 2, so who knows when the next "Super Robot appears way earlier than it did in the game" event will happen.

There's a significant drop in quality in this episode but if they're allocating a good chunk of the budget in the awesome fights that will happen in future episodes, then it's okay.

I didn't mind the animation in this episode. I guess nicer animation on JETO MAGNUMU would have been good, but from what I've heard, their animators ARE focusing on a certain fight down the road that should be the greatest fight in anime if done properly.

I fear for the pacing of this show.

Wasting my time with girl problems when we could've had more time dedicated to the Thrudgelmir cleaving things. And I got so worked up, too...

Just so you know, the School subplot was one of the more major subplots in the game, and Latooni/Seolla/etc are all fairly important characters. So we will probably be seeing them/their subplot alot.

Technically the Thrudgelmir wasn't even supposed to show up at all for a while, so I wouldn't worry about the show being paced too slow. If anything, its already going 2-3 times faster than a 100% faithful adaptation would go.
