One Piece anime pacing is something else. They made that entire episode out of a single chapter. And it was a good episode too, IMO.

You can think Oda for this. He managed to compress so much story into single chapters for this entire arc, that there is plenty of content to elaborate on and fill in the gaps for. All those things in this episode were taken bit by bit from manga, with slightly more detailed character interactions here. I think they did a good job filling in the gaps too, and I am sure even manga readers will appreciate the added detail.

    Absolutely, two arm Shanks FTW!

I have not yet watch this episode, but I was thinking about 2 armed Shanks just the other day -- just like Ed from Full Metal Alchemist. Could he have installed an android arm? I don't like the fact that Shanks with one arm seemed like a weaker badass.

Highly unlikely, we've seen Shanks sparred with Whitebeard with a single arm and the current flashback is prior to that event. So far it's looking a little disappointing for Shanks' fighting prowess, getting scared by a non-fruit using Blackbeard, losing an arm to a single sea king.

Lets just hope we get more details on his Blackbeard fight and it ending badly for Blackbeard.

Uh. Yeah. Shanks isn't supposed to have two arms in that flashback.

So Whitebeard's power is he can control the ocean?

In a world where everything important happens on the sea, no wonder he's....in control of the ocean.

New worst laugh ever though...he sounds like he can't be bothered to laugh for real.

I wonder if the division commanders are ranked by strength. That would mean that Marco guy is stronger than Ace.

Didnt Ace get to be the 2nd division commander simply because that division didnt have one? Thatch mentioned that this episode. If the commanders were ranked by strength, it seems pretty odd to have a missing rank.

Whitebeard made some noise whenever he comes on screen. What the hell is that...

Ace totally under-estimated Whitebeard...with all the talk about Haki, Ace does not seem to have any of it. What about the King's desposition? Why did Whitebeard want Ace... other then being a pedo.

It's Whitebeard signature laugh. Almost every character in One Piece laugh in a really weird manner since the standard "haha" or "hehe" doesn't cut it anymore.

Considering Ace is like 17-18 in that flashback, I'd hardly call WB a pedo, even if he did want Ace sexually.

That said, considering how many pirates are in WB's fleet, I don't think he's super picky, and you don't have to be that picky to think a Logia user would be a great addition anyway.

I think WhiteBeard might have known who Ace's father was all along, and wanted to take care of his rival's son

Ace was already offered a schichibukai position prior to joining the whitebeards, so its not like he's just some nobody that whitebeard happened to bump into.

Ace: Why do you guys call him father?
Marco: Because he calls us "my son".

I always thought that line was awsome.
