Thread: Highschool of the Dead

The whole 'filler' nonsense was the result of Archangel wrongly drawing conclusions from glancing at a few manga chapters. This eps contents were 'character development' scenes for Saeko that were supposed to take place about twice as far into the series after Kuromo had manned up a bit more and we'd had more hints into Saeko's personal issues. I'm glad they got included in the series though. Saeko isn't given that many opportunities to be human in the span of the series that the show seems to be stuck portraying.

thats exactly what this show is about most of the time (and I dislike these parts) :/

btw, you guys complain to much, it must be really hard to enjoy fiction like that.
it wasn't as bad as you guys like to make it look.

In fact, the only scene which was weird is the "tit-grabbing" scene.

I hope we get to see some more survival-horror again, and get away from those senseless zombie-slashing eps.

First few Eps were fine... and the scenes with the empty streets and all when they were driving with the jeep really build up a nice apocalyptic scenery, *thats* what I'd like to see more often.

Just like in 28 Days later
All we need is some military/police action and probably some background information about what is happening in other countries, that would be cool

This anime is now dead to me.

Komuru may die in a fire.
Don't believe in yourself, believe in me, who believes in you.

Only two episodes left so it'll be dead to everybody in short order. I don't expect a whole lot to be sorted out in that very limited time. While Komuro kept hugging Rei throughout this ep, with only two eps left, I don't expect them to seal any pairings. Similarly, with only two eps left, they can't really solve the zombie and dead earth issue, so having more or less action may not make a huge difference, especially since they already established this show is not all action.

The male teacher was shown after the credits so maybe that festering issue will be solved. Not that I wouldn't think the stupid students listening to him didn't deserve their fate, but nevertheless I'd enjoy watching him die. It doesn't matter what happens to the students, although the girls might be better off dead than giving birth to his babies.

LOLWUT have YOU been up to all this time, Shido-sensei?

Komuro's not far behind. When he needs something to grab, he goes for boobs.

This episode started off like shit, but ended on a better note than I had anticipated. With Saeko's appeal slipping since last episode, I now find Takagi as one of the more appealing of the bunch. Even now, all she does is talk, but at least this time it's not while everyone else is fighting for their lives (and hers). Her change of clothing helps a bunch.

While hers own can get pretty annoying, her dad has a sexy voice.

lol, theres so much bullshit going on that i dont know where to start complaining

Rei laying on the bed naked, with everyone else in the room, rofl.

Takagiīs father playing a theater scene and being portrayed in the most clicheed way.

Takagiīs mega-ultra-bullshit about "we should leave" WTF XD I mean, obeying adults is simply returning to reality. Itīs not like they had all the freedom before the zombie breakout. And no matter how dis-satisfied your are, itīs still a 1000times better than out there with the zombies.

And wtf was it with Hiranoīs random meltdown and "swords arent effecient enough", wtf. totally out of nowhere and hilariously out of context.

At least psycho-teacher Shidoshi returns, and he seems to be having fun, yay. Letīs hope he gives our female heroines some trouble

She obviously has some unsorted family issues (which wouldn't be a surprise considering her old man). So, it wasn't logical speaking by any means, at least beyond a sliver of truth that she suspected by staying there all of their freedom would be taken away - and that freedom had kept them alive whereas most had fallen, so it's a fact. They had gone through a lot so far and survived by their own wits alone so suddenly being treated like nothing but kids would hurt anybody's pride.

While I'm not saying it was executed well at all, I think it was connected to his own insecurity and the feeling he would be losing his chances of showing Takagi how much of a man he is. Since he can't use swords, and knows that, he probably tried to tell the others after Takagi's dad's theatrics that somebody using guns would still make a difference.

I have to say, though, that I did find worrisome the "adults are bad" undertone in this episode. This isn't any Peter Pan but a zombie story so they should keep such irrelevant themes out of the way. Not to mention they are high schoolers already and thus in many ways very close to being adults anyway. Except for the loli, of course.

Thatīs what I mean. I really like such themes, but itīs totally not fitting to what weīve gotten so far.

So, apparently the orgy-bus scene is even more graphic in the manga.

    I can only imagine.

Hmm. yeah, that's disappointing (comments gave me the impression that it was something extraordinary).

I have no idea what those comments were on about then, aside from the shadows that really hid nothing.

I actually thought the tongue(s) shot was more graphic in the anime.

I think the both of you hit on it, but missed the point of Saya's little freakout.

Saya and the others (notably Kouta) are upset because as soon as they return to this castle of a house, they are immediately treated like children again. For Saya and Kouta, this is not because they are being treated like children, it is because they are being underestimated and coddled. Though Saya has been largely useless (but thankfully there is one average person in the group of superheroes), Kouta has been anything but. They arrive at her house, against all reasonable expectations, and the assumption the adults make is that they can do a better job and deserve to take the group's equipment.

This is what worries Saya, because she's actually been thinking about it. Sure she certainly has some issues with her parents. One thing that they did not mention in the anime (understandably so I suppose) is that her father is the leader of a Ultranationalist right wing political group. They are extremely militant and conservative.

Saya knows that this is likely what her father and followers would do, and sure enough, they tried at the end of the episode. But Saya knows first hand that their group can handle themselves, and should not be treated like those who need protection. Kouta is thinking along the same lines, if they're staying, he should be the one minding the gates. He's certainly more capable than most of Saya's father's followers with the weapons.

Saya was forcing the decision because if they leave, they can carry on like they have been, as they're fairly well prepared to survive, certainly long enough to continue on and find Komuro and Rei's parents (which was their next goal after Saya's house based on proximity to the school). However, if they stay, they are forced to make the secondary decision of joining her father's troops assuming he even allows it, or sitting back and taking it easy like the other refugees. Perhaps another thing she thought (since it really is all she can do) is that they are at higher risk staying in one spot. On their own, they have been overrun a number of times, but were able to escape by continuing to move. In a way (and perhaps more than one for Saya) they would be trapped staying at her house.

I went off point a bit, but it is less that they are being treated like children and more that they are being treated like helpless refugees instead of the valuable recruits/contributors that they truly are.

Isn't that the same thing..? >_>

I got the initial impression also from Saya's dad's behavior that although he complimented Kouta's attitude, it was condescending - though the scene never progressed far enough that we'd have seen the proof. That of course would be even worse than the simply ignorant man in the garage. But who knows, maybe he instead would have enlisted Kouta into his personal troops! Saya's obvious worries suggested otherwise, naturally.

An excellent point about seeking the other family members. Saya's parents most certainly wouldn't be interested in that. The master of the house looks 100% like a "war does not miss one man" personality.

From Saya's outbursts, it gives off the impression that if they treated them like children, they might actually display some protective inclinations. Instead, like she pointed out, her parents were concerned about themselves first. So instead, Saya and her friends are treated like the same people who sleep in tents in the yard and drop their children's bottles for the sake of censoring the act of decapitation. They just get to sleep in the actual house.

But it is pretty open to interpretation, even viewed that way. One could say that they were making a safe zone, and were confident their daughter could find her way home, but made sure there was an actual home to come home to.

Saya is definitely projecting her issues on to this situation. From the conversation Komuro had in the hallway, Saya's mother certainly does seem to care for her.

I dont see you point. No matter what, staying in this house, being safe, is still a 1000 times better than leaving. So, uhm, Takagi IS dumb.

That no matter what isn't true. The situation will worsen once electricity and water stop running, once the food reserves deplete. After that it's a question of practical philosophy if it's safer to stay or leave. Stationary large congregation of people will attract more zombies and also living hostiles and it will be considerably harder to replenish supplies by scavenging. Mobile small force will face variable uncertainty of safety instead of constant, predictable one, but none of the constant drawbacks in addition to it. Raiding normal households would supply them easily and the number of enemies met would be small and could be avoided since they are on the move.

Well, then they could easily leave when ressources are depleted. I doubt that anyone of the people there would want to have them stay in that situation. Still dont see any sane reason for leaving NOW.
