Movie: Scott Pilgrim vs. The World

    Trailer:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7wd5KEaOtm4

The comic is about a 22 year-old simple-minded slacker who does nothing but obsess over video games, eat cereal, and play in a band with his friends. He meets the girl of his dreams (literally, she uses his dreams as a shortcut during subspace travel) and immediately asks her out. The catch is that he has to fight and defeat her 7 evil exes if he wants to continue dating her.

The movie is being directed by Edgar Wright, who is responsible for Spaced, Sean of the Dead, and Hot Fuzz.

It stars Michael Cera in what could possibly be his breakout role. It seems like the awkward virgin has disappeared and been replaced by an enthusiastic geek you can't help but love. The supporting cast looks amazing and hilarious, and the entire trailer seems as if the movie really has brought the comic to life.

Here's the first TV spot: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-5W5o4AshrY

I love the comic, so I can't wait.

Sample pages of the comic are available on the comic's website, if you want to take a look: http://www.scottpilgrim.com/inside.php?id=previews

There's currently 5 volumes, with the 6th and final volume coming out in July.

Volume 5 ended on a major cliffhanger, so I'm interested to see how the movie deals with the climax and resolution of the story.

A group called Shynola are reported working on the ending credits. They've done music videos such as:

    Beck - E-Pro
Junior Senior - Move Your Feet

Given all the video game references in the comic, I'm assuming we're gonna get something similar to the Junior Senior music video.

this is going to be awesome, I loved Sean of the dead and Hot Fuzz ('The greater good').

I'm going to keep my ears closed until I watch the movie, no trailers, no rumors, no reviews, no comic.
    clean and pure.

sig made by Itachi-y2k5, thanks, dude!
Currently Watching: probably a show directed at 9 years old girls, lets be honest.

You know the important distinction between Batman and me? Batman is fictional. In real life, there isn't always an alternative.

Well then I must tempt you with:

A one minute clip from the movie, wherein Scott fights Lucas Lee, the second evil ex.

I love that Culkin kid as Scott's roommate.

I am so pumped about this movie! It looks like its gonna stay pretty true to form, although I am sure a lot will have to be saved for a sequel since there is no way they can fit everything in a movie. I hope they keep all the funny Canada references and jokes as well.

It's just gonna be one movie. The comic was only on volume 3 when the movie started production, so Edgar Wright had to come up with an ending for the movie, which he did using notes from Brian Lee O'Mally. You can see Scott fighting Gideon in the trailers.

Obviously a lot of stuff will be cut for time. They'll probably downplay Knives (and the whole subplot with her father) and the subplot concerning Scott's high school friend Lisa Miller seems to have been removed entirely.

i really like the way the action scenes are filmed, with the cinematography/animation/kaplow bubbles.....seems very interesting. Definitely worth a watch.

Trailer for the new DS game under development if anyone's interested. It's a side-scrolling beat 'em up. It's been a while since I played one of those. Last one I think was Castle Crashers.

    International trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kjt4vhSqtFQ

Shows more of the plot and jokes, many of which are straight out of the comic.

"You punched me in the boob "

Edit: Goddamn I love Rickenbackers. The part 13 seconds in where he's pounding out those 8th notes gives me an erection.

From the clip it looks like classic Michael Cera which means I will love this movie.

For God will not permit that we shall know what is to come... those who by some sorcery or by some dream might come to pierce the veil that lies so darkly over all that is before them may serve by just that vision to cause that God should wrench the world from its heading and set it upon another course altogether and then where stands the sorcerer? Where the dreamer and his dream?

The movie comes out this Friday. Test screening reviews are in and from the sound of things, this movie is a hit.

In the meantime, there are several more clips online for anyone interested:

I hope this movie is as cool as the trailers make it seem. Sadly, I've recently seen "Youth in Revolt" and "Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist" and Michael Cera's characters have been wearing thin for me. I still love his passive aggressive nerd role, but in these latest movies he's uncharacteristically outgoing and aggressive, which makes the passive nerd role less believable. This seems to be the same thing happening in "Scott Pilgrim", but hopefully it works.

I think it was on TBS where they had the cast of the movie talking during commercials and the girl who plays Scott's love interest is gorgeous!!

If you like Mary Elizabeth Winstead, you should hear her sing in the DVD version of Deathproof.
    edit: found a link.

I think she's pretty underrated, even though a lot of her movies are horror flicks.

Just got back from a midnight screening of this. For better or for worse this is the defining movie for internet/gaming culture. I'd even go so far as to say it most accurately portrays our generation in its delivery of information.

It's very similar in presentation to Speed Racer. It's over the top in the most excruciating, yet beautiful ways. Every other scene was a joke, reference, or an explosion of colors, or sounds, or colors as sounds. Whatever is to be said about the story itself, the visuals are incredible. As I said, it's very 2010, and I suspect that those who truly enjoy it will be several specific groups.

The music is powerful and energetic. Every single song that Beck contributed for Sex-Bobomb is amazing, and the opening credits gave me chills. Metric's Clash at Demonhead song was one of my favorite moments of the film.

The editing is fantastic. There are so many interesting and creative cuts that happen throughout the film. Be it a product of time-crunching or of creative endeavors, the editing of the film lent itself a great deal to the overall hyperactivity. It felt like having 22 tabs open in Firefox and flipping rapidly through all of them.

Off the top of my head, some of my favorite bits included:
    The bass battle
The exit of the Vegan Police
    The Clash at Demonhead Concert
Wallace's growing herem of boys in the bed
    The Seinfeld scene
    Kim's laconic reactions to everything

Every character was well written and had hilarious lines and near perfect delivery. It's impossible to pick out just a few examples (mostly because my brain is on overload). The movie is incredibly dense in jokes-per-minute, nearly all of which were golden.

The story changes drastically from the books about half way through. I haven't had time to let everything sink in, but while I was disappointed with some of the odd changes that were made, I feel that the overall themes remained intact.

The movie is heaps and heaps of style with just enough substance to keep it from being inane. There were parts that I didn't like, but in the end it was a great ride.

I just got back from seeing this and I have to say I'm amazed. It was so good I think I need to see it again. Everything about the movie was so well done and well written. There were a few things here and there that were different but they didn't affect the overall greatness of what makes Scott Pilgrim what it is. As long as no one is expecting it to be exactly like the comic they should enjoy it. This has to be the best movie adaptation of a comic ever.

This was mind numbingly brilliant. At the same time I walked away feeling immensely inspired. From the not so underlying message and mostly from all the different mediums of artistic genius. The Sex Bobombs had the perfect sound for this movie. Every sound my ears picked up made my head swim, not only the songs.

Its also inconceivably funny. Didn't stop laughing for longer than 5 minutes probably.

If you weren't sure about seeing it you need to smack the lead singer thats in your head and get out on stage and rock out for no one other than yourself.
