I want to see this too. It looks like the tone is perhaps a bit dark and ominous as well. I hope it does not disappoint.

I recently saw the first Tron in its entirety and that was a mistake. Some movies were made for a specific time in history, and the original Tron is only appealing if you see it in the 1970s or 1980s at the latest. It would be like seeing this new Tron in the year 2040.

I liked Bladerunner, but I have to admit that it didn't meet my expectations since I also watched it for the first time recently. Labyrinth I've been thinking of re-watching, since I really have some very fond memories of it, but watching some of the effects in some of the trailers has really put me off from it.
Young Jennifer Connelly might make it worth watching, but the quality of the muppets and David Bowie's acting make it tough to sit through.
The original Tron had bad acting coupled with dated special effects and I only remember one hot chick in the movie.

Just saw Tron: Legacy... no wonder there are only 6 posts in this thread, and most of them aren't even about the movie. The movie is terrible. Even Olivia Wilde couldn't save it. This movie is about 40 years too late.

Yeah, I saw this back when it came out and it left absolutely no impression on me. I don't even remember the villain's name or motivation.
However, the soundtrack was amazing and watching a 2 hour-long Daft Punk music video was worth the admission. I've had this as my ringtone for months now:

I would think the opposite, if the movie was that bad I think more people would have posted just to complain about it. I haven't seen it yet though, but various people I know enjoyed the movie. I recently got he bluray version so I'll see about getting to it soon.
There was nothing wrong with this movie, in fact everyone I know loves it and that doesn't happen very often.
Day 1 Mini review:
Saw Tron Legacy IMAX 3D a few days ago.
Even though I already saw this movie in regular 3D nearly 2 weeks ago, I wanted to see the IMAX version as well before posting my impressions.
First of there was a big difference, it seems the IMAX 3D version has the entire movie in 3D, the parts in the real world were converted into 3D. This was totally unneeded and actually introduced some unwanted crosstalk that wasn't present in the normal 3D version.
Though overall the 3D effect was more profound in the IMAX version, though it did have more crosstalk. People that say that the 3D effects were bad are blind bats, good 3D effects are the type that add a layering effect, -NOT- the type that tries to pop out of the screen, which is actually the bad kind. Also the IMAX version sounded a bazillion times better ofcourse, really brought the best out of Daft Punk's awesome musical score.
The movie itself was great, even though the story was quite straightforward it was still highly enjoyable, I also enjoyed some parallels they made with the original film like the escape from the lightcycle battle and the solar rider.
Jeff Bridges character was cool in the way how he still acted and spoke like a dude from the 80's. Sam flynn's actor I had not seen before in anything but his performance was pretty good. Rinzler was a badass and Olivia Wilde was blistering hot as always, though I loved how there was no sexual tension between her character and sam flynn, instead Quorra showed enthousiastic fascination towards him, like a child, which was cute in it's own way.
The visuals were just as impressive as the audio, there is so little colour in the Grid, but it's still very beautifully crafted, in fact the visuals were just plain badass.
This was totally awesome and I will definitly get the blu-ray, highly recommended ;D!
Sorry man, I usually don't like to post negative reviews of a movie in case someone is in your situation and has bought it but hasn't seen it. But this movie's been out a while so I posted. My bad. I think I had too high hopes for it since the first movie was ground-breaking and this one has Olivia Wilde, so it was inevitable that it wouldn't live up to my standards.

I think that speaks to its blandness. It wasn't amazing, and it certainly wasn't terrible. It was a big budget holiday visual effects machine that leaves no impression other than being "cool". The only people who would see any worth in it as a film are those who routinely fit into geek niches and value effects over competent story telling (see darkshadow), and would enjoy it no matter what.
As a music video stitched together using the action scenes and the soundtrack, it makes for a cool experience. However, the plot is mundane and has no gravitas, the villain is boring and tame (I recall that his motive is "to take over the world"), the emotional scenes are forgettable. The main character is a stock "genius hacker" type with a pet monkey or chihuahua or something retarded. Olivia Wilde is the hot, clueless key to salvation who isn't cute if you've seen any anime series at all. Jeff Bridges is the only entertaining guy in there.
It's in the same vein as the Terminator movie that came out a few years ago that I don't even remember the title for. The one with Christian Bale.
Rent the movie with a girl, watch it up until Olivia Wilde appears, then spend the rest of the movie making out on the couch until somewhere near the end. You won't miss a thing.

I loved it. I LOVE stylized movies. Was better than Inception IMO.
I think Inception was a good concept, but like Dark Knight, is overrated. I can get the same exploration of themes in anime.

I really enjoyed it in the theater and I had always liked the original for what it is. Then I tried watching it at home on bluray and got bored halfway through and went to do something else. I still haven't finished it a second time.

its a movie meant to be watched in IMAX, not at your houe, even if you have a nice setup. I've seen it twice in theaters, and loved it both times, but i probably couldnt watch it at home.
You'd probably have to have a baller sound system and a projector to get the full enjoyment.

For me it was the complete loss of the "Tron" concept that was the movie's biggest failure. In the original, the human actors portrayed computer programs like system functions and software. I think that was mostly lost in the second movie and referred to here and there but not a central aspect of the movie. It actually sounded ridiculous when they did use it, since they hadn't set it up or emphasized that this was a human implementation of a computer's software.
In the end, it was just a flashy movie that relied on fan service for fans of the original movie and a lot of special effects that weren't that special.

For me it was an OK film. Not much great acting from the main character, and the add of a pretty decorative jar like Olivia that both real and CGI Bridges suplly. I liked the dark aesthetics similar to its predecessor and all those winks with Unix code and such. Soundtrack is just sublime. Not the greatest film but a nice view, an enhancement of its predecessor.
