My biggest gripe is that he looks too little like a gladiator/warrior and more like Mr.Averagejoe McRandomdude... he needs to get in better physical shape tbh.

Maybe he didn't have much time to really train for the part since it looked like Andy was going to beat his cancer then it took a turn for the worse and he died, so he probably had to somewhat rush into the role.

When andys cancer returned they started recasting, not like they waited for andy to die to cast. Andy actually helped in choosing his replacement.

if ya consider me a friend, add me to that list o/

on-topic: like i mentioned before, his physique really does wander off from the whole "gladiator/warrior" outlook, i mean even if ya compare him to some of the other roles, his physique is still lacking compared to theirs o.o (just my 2 cents)

In the first season, Spartacus always stood out as the main character in every episode. This episode, it felt more like he was part of the scenery with other events unfolding. Maybe it is just me mentally trying to not to notice the difference between his portrayal and Andy's and in doing so, shutting the character out all together.

i know exactly what ya mean, i somewhat got that feeling myself

I think that had to do with the direction of the episode. I think it equalizes the importance of all the story lines.

k so i was rewatching the full 1st episode of Vengeance and JUST noticed...Liam doesn't seem to be "into" the whole "Spartacus" role..i mean seriously rewatch it and you'll see what i mean, he seems like he's "trying" a bit too hard to fit the role which just ends up sorta backfiring (it's not all that great of importance, sortaish) i mean you just really have to look at his expressions and tone of voice, if ya miss that there isn't much difference

Ok, I'm starting to see what some of you are saying about the new Spartacus. In the scenes where he and Crixus stood face to face while disagreeing on matters, I couldn't help but think "...why doesn't Crixus just hit him in the face right *now*?" Remember that scene last season where, despite being injured, Crixus decided to fight Spartacus to demonstrate his fighting condition? So that he wouldn't be sold off and taken away from Naevia? Well, Spartacus kicked his bleeding ass all over the desert sands, while talking massive amounts of shit in the guise of educating the newbies. When I try to think of this Spartacus in that scene, what I see is Crixus's leg stuck knee deep in his ass. Andy's Spartacus had a charisma that made him stand as Crixus' equal and everyone elses superior. Liam's Spartacus doesn't have that charisma, and it's making it difficult for me to accept him as the leader of this rebellion. Hell, he doesn't even seem tougher than Agron. To be fair, Agron seems tougher this season than he did last.

Asides from that (and Lucretia, as will be the case forevermore) I'm pretty happy about the episode. I'm glad Asher finally made an appearance, and did so in bold fashion. How long did he track Oenomaus before making his move? Asher is just that guy: patient, skillful, and lacking in moral restraint (relatively speaking). I just love to hate him. I'm also glad to see the rebellion story moving along. Maybe as Spartacus gets to be more cerebral to deal with the coming strife, I'll find less fault in his portrayal.

First off i don't see the problem with Lucretia. Is it because she is alive? If so people should hate Crixus even more since Theokoles sliced open his gut and Crixus himself had to hold back his entrails from pouring out of his gut. All Lucretia got was stabbed in the gut to end the baby. She would have died if she didn't get help but Crixus probably lied longer on the arena floor without help then Lucretia potentially did. Specially since Asher was still alive. Once the rebellion left it would be natural for him to seek out Quintus and Lucretia.

And the way things looked it seems as Lucretia have been laying this entire time. Pretending to have amnesia. Pretending to be blessed by the gods. All in some scheming power play worthy of Lucretia. You could really see it in the end seconds of the episode when she and Asher stood face to face. I was a little confused as what to think when she was still alive when you just presume they ended her. But now i have no problem with her. She looks to be as evil as she ever was.

Lucretia's death was a story death. She was meant to die. How she died is cosmetic. Now sure, Crixus being alive is equally as ridiculous considering what Theokoles did to him, but his wounds were merely cosmetic in that sense. I've brought up in the past how Lucretia couldn't possibly have survived that wound, now you bring up Crixus. Touche. That doesn't change the real problem with her being alive though. Once again, she was supposed to be dead in the story, and someone who wasn't the writer of the story lobbied for her to be alive and have a part in this second season. That bullshit by any standard primarily concerned with artistic merit.

I want Lucretia dead simply because I hate her character, especially after what happened in Gods of the Arena. That bitch killed the only Roman in the show (Batiatus Sr.) that I didn't hate with every fiber in my body.

I bet you Crixus isn't really dead. Why would you hit him on the head to knock him out if he's dead already?

Plus he's too good of a character to just throw away. And that whole GO ON WITHOUT ME bit was cliche, but this is ancient Rome we're talking about, so I guess they were the first one's who did it.

Yeah, I said the exact same thing when I saw it happen, because I was expecting his head to come off or at least his throat to be slit when Asher closed the distance, and when that didn't happen I thought "...wtf?" Besides, getting run through seems to kill nobody in this series.
