    Oh ffs............................................... ....

I don't know how I'm going to feel about this in the long run, but as of right now, it's marring a perfect ending. I suppose there's some hope that she might've lived since it was a slow death belly wound Crixus afflicted her with. But this is the roman empire we're talking about. I don't think they could cure a wound like that, having no understanding of germ theory or the ability to do blood transfusions...whatever. We'll see how it goes.

Even the might Spartacus isn't immune to the influence of network greed.

I have to agree with you Uchiha, but at the same time I have a twisted happiness over getting to see Lawless again.

We don't know -how- she's going to be next season of course. Her empire has fallen, after all. There is such a thing as human resilience, and she's demonstrated quite an ample amount so far. She doesn't have any money, so what's going to happen to her??? No way will she become a charity case?

    Well this sucks...

Andy Whitfield, star of Starz's "Spartacus: Blood and Sand," has been advised by his doctors to immediately resume aggressive treatment for a recurrence of cancer, as a result of which he will not be returning for the series' second season, which was tentatively set to air in September 2011.

"It's with a deep sense of disappointment that I must step aside from such an exceptional project as Spartacus‚ and all the wonderful people involved. It seems that it is time for myself and my family to embark on another extraordinary journey. Thank you sincerely for the support so far," said Whitfield.

"Our hearts and prayers are with Andy and his family during this difficult time," said Starz President and CEO Chris Albrecht. "Andy is not only an incredible actor whose portrayal of Spartacus made an indelible impression on Starz audiences, he is also an amazing human being whose courage, strength, and grace in the face of adversity have inspired all of us."

No decisions have yet been made about the future of the series. "Right now, we just want to extend our concern and support to Andy and his family," said Carmi Zlotnik, Managing Director, Starz Media. "We will address our programming plans at some later date."

Starz still plans to air the prequel to "Spartacus: Blood and Sand" in January 2011. Entitled "Spartacus: Gods of the Arena," it focuses on the House of Batiatus before Spartacus arrives in Capua and stars returning cast members John Hannah, Lucy Lawless, Peter Mensah and Manu Bennett, along with newcomer Dustin Clare.

Last time I heard of his cancer, I was primarily sad for the show. This time I feel bad for him. I hope he recovers from this resurgence and that all is well for him and his family.

Well some more sad news for him, but a bit optimistic for fans of the show. They're recasting the lead role for Spartacus:

Ladies and Gentlemen! Gods of the Arena has finally aired, what a glorious first episode filled with all the excesses we've come to know and love from Blood and Sand! As always Batiatus is his scheming, Machiavellian self, but you're treated to new delights as well. Oenamaeus's wife is gorgeous, Lucretia is joined by a beautiful, decadent childhood bi-sexual friend, Gannicus (the new lead) is a cocky son of a bitch with combat skills to match his ego, and Asher...is actually likable this episode. For the next 5 weeks, its looking lke we'll be getting plenty of our weekly dosage of carnage.

Is really no one checking this out? It's pretty good stuff, although if you thought the show was only blood and sex before, you'll think even more so now. But if you got the point of it all, it's a pretty good prequel even if it feels hastily done at first. We're three episodes in, and basically a good idea of what forged Batiatus's personality and outlook.

I agree Barles, though this show does hold a Machiavellian touch to it with Batiatus ofc(not a masterpiece since he fails big time in the end) which i firmly belive will climax in the murder of his own father and give birth to the Batiatus we know and Love-Hate.
But i like the distance they have gone with the language, social status, surroundings and rawness of the Roman era in these two shows. Even if this arc doesn't lead to any grand conclusion as in the previous season its easy watching when your bored and need a boost
(and more nude Lucy[Xena] Lawless, 90% reason why i watch this).

I find this series almost better then the first one. I find Gannacus and Oenomeius (who knows how these damn names are spelled without actually looking it up? no one, that's who!!) more interesting then Spartacus and Crixus. Spartacus was actually kind of boring at times. Also we all knew Oenomeius was much stronger then Crixus in Blood and Sand, so it's been real interesting to see how Crixus gained the title of Champion when Gannacus is considered an equal to Oenomeius. And now we know why.

And it's also very interesting to see Ashur's story. In Blood and Sand he was brother, but still he was ridiculed and laughed. And the only reason for it seemed to be that Crixus had given him his leg wound. It seemed like he was unjustly picked on and that made him the backstabbing whore that he was at the end. Only thing missing was, "Why did Crixus wound Ashur to begin with? Is it just that Crixus is an asshole or is it Ashur that is the treacherous fucker to begin with?". Well now we know that Ashur, who started out as a swell guy, turned out to be a total dick once things started to go his way a little.

Whoa...you're probably right. I think people who saw what Asher did to his "friend", in wounding his eye, actually knew that the friend had the upper hand. Crixus included. The wound Crixus gave Asher was probably in retaliation for that. Crixus might've been an asshole, but he's never shown himself to be anything other than honorable.

I'm still sad about this. RIP Andy, you skillfully and emotively brought to life one of history's greatest warriors and will be remembered for it.

First ep of "Spartacus: Vengeance" (season 2) is apparently out already, even tho it airs on the 27th :P (it's even out in 720p)

edit: Heads up, it looks like some framerate or stuttering (might just be on my comp tho)
Not unwatchable, but slightly annoying :P

Yeah...I'm going to avoid it like the plague and see it on the premier night. Though since you've seen it, how's Liam McIntyre as Spartacus?

Well, at first i just kept thinking about how this new guy isn't as good as Andy was as Spartacus, but by the end of the episode i didn't even care anymore.

Jolly good ep, i really enjoyed it once i got past the new Spartacus :P

edit: Glad to see they didn't cut down on the blood and nudity at all ^^

Sweet! I guess that means this guy is more than passable and everything else makes up for any shortcomings he may exhibit. Can't wait till next Friday xD.

Exactly, even if he's not as good as Andy, the rest of the stuff easily makes up for it ;D
