I'm not that surprised, after all, a filler has to be butchered... even if they had for a time like a golden opportunity to do even better than the usual show.

Look at the title, this is the 253rd episode! The fact that every now and again we still get an episode with superior animation is already great, to expect to get them every single time and without repercussions to the following quality is just naive.

Long story short their budget isn't infinite, we should be happy that they're willing to throw us a bone every now and then

I still don't know why they insist on having huge hordes of completely uselessly weak enemies. What's the point? Also, every hollow should be a troubled soul, and these huge hollow legions make it look like every single dying Japanese is stuck to the world by their regrets, unable to move on. Quite a sad place. Well, at least the shinigami won't run out of work.

While I agree with the general position of your post, we are not talking about quality of animation here. its just the story got mangled to put it nicely in this episode. They just ran out of imagination it felt like is all.

I think that was the first honest-to-god truly crap episode of Bleach I've seen. That was Naruto-class crap, maybe worse.

bleach filler is worse than naruto filler, and naruto filler is fairly damn bad.
