just watched last ep (24). Disappointing ending, to be honest. I always thought that the Gold Bananas were by far the weakest of the three groups, yet they were made to be the big enemy. Thus, when Anri/Slasher, Ryugamine/Dollars/Celty invaded their place, I didnt feel any excitement. Fantasy creatures with super powers vs a bunch of idiots, yeah, lol.

What also didnt feel right was how Izaya didnt see any consequences. HE was the one who brought turmoil over the city, riling people up against each other. Yet, a single Simon-punch is all he gets.

Lasty,....those super powers totally didnt fit the show. I mean, we had Celty and the Slasher from the very beginning, but thats one thing. However, Shizu being a Terminator, Simon another one, and then suddenly Masaomi and Izaya have Dragonball-like power, too? Too much. It felt to me as if the show makers couldnt decide between two concepts and, amateurishly, mixed them both together.

Ah, well, at long last, Iīve finished this show

    I'll bite.

I agree that the Yellow Whatevers aren't much of a threat, but the DRRR series apparently goes on quite a bit after this (we can only hope for a sequel). That's why the scene mid-series with Mikado calling a meet to rise against Yagiri Namie is more of a climax than the latter half of the series. Very underwhelming. But what they lacked in supernatural powers the Yellow Scarves infested by the Blue Squares make up for in sheer numbers and brutality. It's similar to the reason the Dollars were a threat to Namie.

As for Shizuo, Simon, Izaya and Masaomi, I think each of those instances is warranted, if a little exaggerated. Shizuo's immense strength comes from the abuse of his body largely since he was very young. They say broken bones grow back stronger, and he's broken nearly every bone in his body at least a dozen times. Simon is a Russian beast, and a giant at that. He's 2.2 meters (7+ ft) tall!

Masaomi gets his strength from simply being brutal in the past and tons of combat experience. He's not out of place when you consider the Dollars' enforcers (Erika, Walker, Kadota, and Togusa) are as equally feared as Masaomi once was. They drive around in their van, are a bunch of otaku, but were all prominent members of the Blue Squares.

Izaya is well...Izaya. He is the Skill to Shizuo's Strength. He makes up the difference with extensive combat/knife experience, and his agility is rather commendable. But there is undoubtedly a reason for that ninja-like skill. If you watch the dvd Episode 12.5, Izaya's twin sisters appear and at least one of them displays equal agility and acrobatic combat skills. Perhaps they come from that kind of family.

Just like Baccano, DRRR is filled with extraordinary people coming together for some reason or another.

    This.

You can't really ask for a lot of realism in a show where there are headless bikers and demon swords.

This show pointed out how scared Masaomi was, so scared that he couldnt help his girl friend at that time. Later on he fights off the collective Neo Blue Squares all by himself, delivering roundhouse kicks and what not. Shizuo was shown to be crazy strong in the beginning, but then he was shot several times and just kept walking around, then grabbed a whole lamp pole and swung it around. And Anri-chan got Sharingan eyes.

None of these were clear in the beginning of the series, so thatīs what I mean with lack of realism. It just popped outta nowhere.

Btw. I have to admit that I dont like the concept of this series, yes. EVERY character is a smart ass. Usually, a story has one or two such characters, maybe more when it is a long-running plot. But there is a reason for that, you know. Because its more interesting to wach imperfect characters, losers, idiots, and so on. In Durarara, every single person was a Uchiha Madara, lol. But you need Narutos and Sakuras and Rock Lees and ... to create interesting scenes. I guess ill prepare for Ryllharuīs shitstorm incoming , but thatīs how I felt about this show. Itīs boring when everyone is a leader.

I'm cool with your preference in shows. I only disagree about your complaint that it isn't realisitc. I think Shizuo throwing around people and vending machines already shows why it is wrong to expect this show to be grounded in real world rules.

well, just sticking to one of my complaints: Masaomi-kun. It really makes no sense for me that he was too scared to help his girl friend, when he got around kicking ass at the end of the show. Unless you want to interpret it as "ever since that incident, he was training in secret and thus became stronger". But I must have missed any proof for that.

Its really annoying how you always end up comparing things to a generic shonen. Not a very reliable source for 'interesting scenes'

Well, "generic shounen" create the most basic, but also most effective tools for interesting scenes. So I dont think it is wrong to use them for comparisons. Itīs safe to say that thereīs not a single scene in the whole of Durarara that is as interesting to watch as the Rock Lee vs Gaara-fight in Naruto, and yes, thatīs the definition of generic shounen.

No shitstorm necessary. I flat-out like Baccano much better than DRRR, for much of the same reason. There really isn't anyone to contrast all these insane personalities and extraordinary skills.

There's Ryuugamine, oh, but he's actually a bit of a mastermind. What he lacks in combat he makes up in [online] communication skills and once he gets his confidence back, organization and leadership. Now that he's allied with the leader of the Slashers, he really has nothing to fear at all.

Kadota and pals, nope, he and otaku pals are very experienced street brawlers/interrogators/torturers.

Even Harima Mika and Yagiri Seiji? She's rather skilled at stalking as well as the sub-set skill of breaking and entering, and he's known to be viciously brutal when it comes to his obsession (Celty's head and lookalikes).

There really isn't anyone like Jacuzzi, Firo, Lua, the Genoard siblings, or the Gandor brothers. Everyone has some absurd level in one skill or another that is far beyond the norm. There is a reason why Ladd Russo was the best character in Baccano. He was pretty normal compared to his peers in the show, and loved to kill people for their hubris. He made being (relatively) normal, extraordinary.

    Durarara!! X2 Horriblesubs Episode 1

    -------------------------

This episode was better than the entire first season altogether. So much Celty goodness!!! I almost died from Dullahan overdose. CeltyXShinra is my favorite pairing in the Naritaverse, followed closely by ClaireXChane, and then FiroXEnnis.

Unfortunately, this means we won't be getting much of Celty in the coming episodes...

I felt really bad for our poor dojikko dullahan, who lost all her cash.

This was actually a really good first episode for a series that had a five year gap. They reintroduced everyone in a way that you can remember some of the stuff that went on and who they were. Even the characters that got very little time in season 1, but are obviously going to be a bit more important now. The two sisters perhaps?

The update on the van's door was a nice touch. Shiba Miyuki instead of whoever it used to be.

Also nice to see that Anri's boobs didn't shrink with the studio swap. I'd actually say that Shuka is doing a remarkable job copying Brain's Base, but since Director and Character Designer are the same as season 1, so this is to be expected. No copying involved, just continuation.

The great part about this sequel is there are 2 more cours incoming (this is Shou, then next is Ten, and finally Ketsu). I hope that means the entire story will be animated. If so, kudos to Narita and whoever decided to do this. It would show how great stories with amazing characters should be adapted. I am so sick and tired of anime original endings, and after watching Shirobako and being shown how it is usually the director's call how the anime ending would go, there is little excuse for shitty finales.

    DRRR x2 - 04

    ----------------

Well, this episode overall was pretty fun.

Celty being a huge dork, the twin's plan sorta working unintentionally, Anri being her secretly-badass self, the emotionless love story progressing, and Namie being amusingly mean to Izaya.

One little feature I really liked was how the twins act opposite on the chatroom to their "real" personalities. It emphasizes how mental the two of them are, and highlights the fact that their personalities are just one humongous act.

If there was anything I had to fault this series for, it is how obvious they are making it that Aoba (blue-haired transfer student) is scheming to take over the Dollars, or at the very least fuck with Ryuugamine. They give him "the look" moments all the time, they had him introduce himself to Ryuugamine right away, he tries to start usergroups at the school, injecting himself into their business all the time, his little high school schemes, his obvious two-faced behavior, etc. It has always seemed like he wants to be Ryuugamine.

I've recently discovered a new thing in life called Celty Sturluson. I expressed my love by buying 2 figures of her. I'm ready for the coming anime.

Now to guess which character will be on the Van door in Ep1. My guess is someone from Fate/kaleid liner Prisma. Runner up would be Popura from Working!!!

    If it's not Isuzu-chan Mii~

    HS - Episode 16

    ---------------------------------

Wow, I can't remember the last time something took four episodes to cover one day. I remember it was mostly two, back when this first aired. That's kind of understandable though with such a large cast now.

30+ episodes in, it's still hilarious to see Shizuo bulldoze everybody. Mikado's by far my least liked character. His weak demeanour and half-assed efforts shit me off.

    If it's not Isuzu-chan Mii~

    HS - Episode 17

    ---------------------------

At this point I'm considering marathonning this show then this is all over because:

    1) The internet chat isn't typesetted by HorribleSubs
    2) There's quite a bit of detail that benefits from being retained across various weeks (esp since it takes 4 days to cover a "day", and it's not until week 5 or something where to go back to the story/perspective of week 1's characters)
    3) Not much discussion that benefits from weekly viewing anyway

Anyone here know of any subs that typeset the chats? I'll download a few random ones to check them out.

    If it's not Isuzu-chan Mii~
