Awesome. I cringed at 17:00 when I thought the rest would be recap, but the old toads were pretty cool. The female being all snappy while everyone's serious is fun to watch.
I don't get how Jiraiya managed to summon all those shadow clones with his hands clapped. He must have had to unclasp them at some point (toad-intestine summoning?), but even then I wasn't sure if he was a shadow clone himself.
I wonder if Tsunade's real form is just one fat slug....
If it's not Isuzu-chan Mii~
That was some high level summoning art in this episode. Summonings have actually been playing a major role in many of the high level fights in Naruto so in that sense it's not so strange Pain stuck to them so much. But the variety of his summonings for sure continues to surprise. He must have some personal killed technique as well, but I wonder if we are going to see it for a while.
Jolly good episode in any case. One helluva fight, but that's to be expected if it's Jiraiya's last one.
What a scary looking dude is Jiraiya... But we saw some great fights.
So those piercings do have something to do with techniques. I mean, is it just a coincidence that all the summoned creatures have piercing looking things in their body?
Jiraiya-boy... what shitty subs
Hakke Rokujūyon Shō!
No not at all. The elder toads are supposed to be extremely old, I forgot how old exactly, so even if Jiraiya is in his 50s he is still just a boy to them so they refer to him as Jiraiya-chan.Originally Posted by ASSpirine

Don't you think there is too much going on for you to let something like Jiraiya-boy bother you.

Well those kinds of small things have a way of ruining the whole experience when lumped togetherOriginally Posted by Abdula
You know, I gotta say after watching this ep and the preview, I'm less convinced that Jiraya is going to die. I think he's going to leave this plane, but the way they've been playing up the toad connection more and more... I think his sage mode strengths that tie and something in the battle is going to result in it becoming too strong/permanent and he's going to end up banished to the toad plane unless summoned rather then actually dead.
Also the who summoning and multiple bodies thing... I wonder if pain split out different types of ninjituse, so each body is a specialist in a specific thing even though they are all the 'same' ninja.
Oh well, I'll stop specing and go back to hiding in lurk for another few months now.
In the preview of next episode you can see Jiraiya becoming more toad-like. His hands and feets became froggy?...
Well, we witnessed Orochimaru also being a freaky snake. Jiraiya a toad, then there indeed is a big possibillity that Tsunade is a slimy slug...

Sage mode is visually kind of disappointing. But at least it kicked ass.
So...if we're to believe what Jiraiya is saying about the Rinnegan, it lets him 1. Learn every jutsu he's taught(not super impressive since Sharingan does the same thing) and 2. Use every element nature(and one they apparently haven't introduced yet since he said 6). That's much more impressive. Especially if he can mix the natures without a Kekke Genkai(which would be cool if he could).
I definitely think each of his bodies are going to have different techniques, but the fact that he can use more than one at a time is bad news for Jiraiya. He could be fighting 6 full powered ninja at the same time by the end.
I believe the translation most would have used for that would have been "Young Jiraiya" not "Jiraiya-boy".Originally Posted by Abdula
I didn't have any trouble with "Jiraiya-boy". It's bad when you think too hard about it, but in context, it really didn't matter.

That I disagree with. I really don't see the problem with the translation, where I grew up adding boy to someone's name or using boy to refer to any male younger than yourself was actually pretty common. It is not nearly as weird as you would think and if you picture Ma with a nice country twang as I imagine she should have, then it fits perfectly.Originally Posted by DarthEnder
Oh and I kinda agree with you on the sage mode thing. Although I'm not making too much of a big deal out of it because we haven't seen him in action yet. For some reason I expected him to be green, I mean they washed out Pain's rinnegan so I just expected Jiraiya to be green.

The sixth is ying and yang manipulation, it’s the base to all those clan jutsus like Shikamaru’s shadow jutsu or Chouji’s macdonald enlargement tech. They aren’t bloodline limit jutsus in the sense that you don’t have to be born with a specific body to use them, they are just secret jutsus that each clan preserves and only those inside the clan know how to use.Originally Posted by DarthEnder
When Naruto was developing the new rasengan he asked Kakashi and Yamato about what type of element was Shika’s and Chouji’s jutsu and Yamato said those were ying and yang manipulations.
Great stuff although it went by too fast... half the ep was him preparing for a summon. At least we got to see sage mode in action for a bit, and damnnn that ma and pa combo was ruthless.
This arc rocks.
When man invented the bicycle he reached the peak of his attainments. Here was a machine of precision and balance for the convenience of man. And (unlike subsequent inventions for man's convenience) the more he used it, the fitter his body became. Here, for once, was a product of man's brain that was entirely beneficial to those who used it, and of no harm or irritation to others. On the Jiraiya boy note, Yourichi does say Byakua Boy a number of times to tease Kuchiki.

Yeah. We get it. It's an honorary. We don't translate honoraries because they sound stupid in english. That's why any translator with any sense translates something like "Jiraiya-san" as "Mr. Jiraiya" or just Jiraiya and not "Jiraiya Older Guy".
