The appearance of ghostly beings can involve both scientific and supernatural phenomena. A solid, mute, lookalike girl to me, means:

a) She's ignoring them
b) She's had a memory loss (or developed a multiple personality disorder)
c) She's a look-alike. An actual "clone" fits here.

I was about to suggest that the main Black Knight is the king himself, but then I remembered he died before the witch did her whole destroy-the-world thing.
